Nice apartment, great landscaping, good neighbors

I lived in a 1 BR apartment here from Aug 2006 to Aug 2008 while in grad school at UK. I really enjoyed living here, although some of the other reviews are correct. My apartment was pretty much as-is when I moved in. It was in good shape, but the minor maintenance requests I made at move in were never done (like repairing caulking in bathroom). Other maintenance requests like a leaky faucet were handled promptly though. The office staff was always very friendly, professional, and helpful. They knew my name when I went in to pay rent and always greeted residents with a smile.

I really liked living here because of the nice neighbors, cute apartment, and cozy fireplace. I loved the great landscaping and really enjoyed walking the dog around the complex. Lots of trees and open spaces to walk the dog, especially beautiful in the spring when the many flowering trees are in bloom. Everyone there seems to get out and walk their dogs, jog, or stroll around the complex in the afternoons, so you get to know the people around you.

I felt generally safe here, although they were slow in replacing light bulbs in security lights on buildings and in parking lots, so the back of the complex was very dark at night. It was generally quiet, although I could hear my downstairs neighbors when they turned up the TV or stereo, so be sure you are in a quiet building if you do not want noise. One bad thing about living here is the sewer smell in August, it was very bad on some days in late summer. The sewer smell was present for a few weeks after I moved in, went away, and then came back every August. I was told that the city sewer has a tendency to back up in that area at that time of year, and they come out and clean it to get rid of the smell. I saw an occasional spider and millipede-type bug, but they were excellent about spraying regularly, so there was never a bug problem.

I was always able to find a convenient parking space. The location was very convenient. I liked being right across from the mall and near campus, but away from the noise of undergraduates. My neighbors were professionals that worked at Central Baptist or UK hospitals, grad students, some small families, and a few retirees. The traffic on Nicholasville Rd was terrible during rush hour, but this is true anywhere in Lex. It took about five minutes to UK at off hours, about 30-40 minutes during rush hour. Overall, the Mansion is a great place to live and I would definitely check here first if ever moving back to Lexington!
