When I lived here, I was one of the lucky few that actually got a 9 month lease (They only allow a certain number of people to have leases shorter than 12 months). Compared to all the old, scary privately owned houses around campus, this place looked like a dream. It was only after I got all my furniture in there that I realized just how small the place was. I payed $580/month for a 475 square foot one bedroom, that was really just a modified studio. I've heard that those one bedrooms now rent for $610. There are lots of fancy things that make the place seem really nice, like the electronic locks that don't work when it gets cold outside. Fortunately, I never had a problem with anything in my apartment. The grounds crew is not that great. In January or February, there was an ice storm, and the sidewalks on the property were covered with an inch of ice. They did not clear the sidewalks, and I slipped and fell, hurting my back. My purse (with my keys in it) flew out of my hand, and my keys got lodged in some bush. I went to the office, soaking wet in the 10 degree weather, and asked to get a key so I could get into my apartment to change out of my wet clothes. They said that they couldn't give me a key, and that it would be $50 to replace the key I had "lost" due to their tardiness in clearing the sidewalks of ICE! I missed two classes because I was trying to find my keys amongs the ice and snow. The manager is a hateful British lady, who always seems to be too busy to talk to you. Oh, and then there's the train that is about 40 feet from the property. The neighborhood is pretty shady. They talk about how close it is to campus, and that you can walk to your class. Well, it takes about 25 minutes to walk to class. The kids that live there are always partying. My neighbor would play his rap at mid-night, and my bathroom wall would shake from the vibrations. Save the money and headach. You can pay just as much elsewhere and get twice the square footage. It takes me just as long to drive from Tates Creek to campus, park, and walk to class as it did for me to walk from University Village.
