I have recently had a huge MOLD problem in my apartment. Myself and my daughter have been sick for a few months with respiratory problems. I had a downstairs apartment and the person who lived above me had standing water in the closet where his water heater was. That water was leaking down to my apartment as well as a leak in the bathroom from his shower. The leaks in the bathroom had been "fixed" several times. I noticed some black mold on a wall behind a mirror (in my hallway), on my kitchen ceiling and coming out of the air vent in my kitchen. Alos HORRIBLE mold in my water heater closet. I asked to be moved to a different apartment, which they did accomodate, but they wouldn't agree to help with my moving expenses or transfer of utilites, etc. The apartments are a great size for the money. The neighborhood and parking are not the greatest, but not horrible. The staff (other than maintenance man) seem to be very rude and don't care about the residents. Nothing has been done about the apartment above mine and so that leads me to believe that they will continue to let their residents live in nasty mold-infested, unhealthy apartments. I will be calling the health department to alert them of the problem because I think it is unsafe to live there. I think they will probably try to mask the problem with paint and not actually rip out dry wall and fix things so that this doesn't happen again. If you are going to move here, you need to make sure that your apartment is safe. I am contacting a lawyer to get some kind of compensation. I had only asked for $250 and maybe just a little concern for my health and well being and got nothing. I will now have a lawyer draft a letter and we will see what happens.
