moving on

I have read all of the previous reviews and I agree with most of them, but not all of them. The new landscaping and windows are nice, parking is plentiful, mail is now more secure, and it is like a quiet neighborhood. However, the office staff has demonstrated nothing but laziness and a lack of concern for the residents. When we first moved in we filled out our condition report, listing the necessary items needing attention. We included the broken sliding patio door, which the maintanance guy told us was broken. Well that has only gotten worse. Most of our outlets didn't have covers on them. One whole wall had outlets that didn't even work, and it took at least a week to get them fixed. The main ceiling light in the hall bathroom didn't work, but it was more than just changing the light bulb. I had to call multiple times to get someone to acknowledge my problem, and they finally fixed it.
I called the office on various occasions, leaving a handful of messages, but NONE of the messages got returned. One of them was in regards to the flyer they sent out about looking for lifeguards. I called 2-3 times and mentioned I knew someone that was interested, but they never called me back. Then what happened' The pool had to be closed for most of late summer because they didn't have lifeguards. I also called 2-3 times inquiring about a notice they sent me about renewing my lease. This notice came after I turned in my request to vacate, and I wanted to be sure they received my request. I called one last time on my way home one day and no one answered, so I finally went in to the office. One of the staff was sitting there like she'd been bored all day, so I'm not entirely certain why she didn't answer the phone. I told her I had left some previous messages, and she didn't seem to acknowledge it. Then she went back to the office to grab my file, and brought out someone elses. She also wasn't clear on how the process for moving out and turning in keys should go. It's like because I'm moving out she doesn't want to waste her time with me.
But I think worst of all, as soon as we got our keys and opened the door for the first time, we were hit with a strong wall of stale cigarette smoke. Neither my roommate nor I smoke, but when I leave my apartment to go somewhere, I smell like I have been for years. I'm finally moving out and into a house, but I have to rewash ALL of my clothes, and I have to air out all of my belongings. It's a lot of time and expense I wasn't planning on, only because our apartment wasn't fully prepared for us when we moved in...at least we could have been told that we were moving in to a place where the previous tenants had smoked.
I would only recommend this apartment complex to someone who knows what to look for and who would do their homework. This is only my experience.
