Move In At Your Own Risk

The positives: Our neighbors have been good neighbors, plenty of parking, good location, plenty of space, not very noisy, BUT as I write this review there is water on our kitchen countertops for the third time in the last week from a water leak in the upstairs apartment. Also, the carpet in the hallway of the master bedroom has been flooded three times and is awaiting new padding which has been saturated with water, which I actually had to tear up and throw out because it was starting to stink. This is the last month of our lease and we are moving out even though they offered a reduced month to month lease. The apartments look nice on the inside and the price is reasonable for the amount of space you get, but it is not worth the service provided. The complex is way understaffed when it comes to maintenance people. They are worked to death as I see the same two guys here at almost all hours of the day, seven days a week. They are good people. The communication between management, staff, maintenance and renters is very poor to put it nicely. Our family has been here one year and I've seen about 5 or 6 different leasing consultants (that should tell you something about the management). Some of the other problems we've had have been birds in the wall, the entire kitchen light fell out of the ceiling because it wasn't secured into the studs, the entire carpet had to be replaced after we moved in because the previous renter had pets that peed on the carpets and it ruined the padding, but wasn't properly cleaned; we've had three major floods - one because the upstairs washing machine flooded so our master bedroom ceiling caved in and three sections had to be replaced. I had the city of Louisville come and inspect the apartment for repairs and mold, which they gave Breckinridge 3 weeks to fix and they did most of the it within that time frame. We were without hot water for one week because of a busted pipe, and other times the hot water will just be off or no water at all. The air conditioning unit was out for a week. I could go on but you get the point. Oh, and if you live on the bottom floor you can hear every step the people above you take. I write this because I know the stress it has caused our family as I have a pregnant wife, and a 14 month old baby boy. We've spent so much time cleaning up and having industrial fans running for days drying out carpet, we've had to wash clothes that got wet and move things to different rooms because of the water problems. These places were built in the late 60s and they haven't been taken care of very well over the years. What the complex has done is basically done a good job of masking the problems so you can't see them with the naked eye and once they get you to sign that lease you are no longer a priority. The management has showed little to no concern for our plight and I hope that no one else has to deal with their incompetence. I plan to write a letter to the corporation that runs these apartments because I believe they need to know the type of service they are providing. And by the way, this problem is not isolated to one lemon of an apartment. My sentiments are shared by many of the neighbors I talk with, some have even moved out prior to their lease being up because of the constant problems and lack of resolutions.
