The Cavalier Apartments, built by Jews in response to not being allowed to live in the Puritan Building right across the street, were built at the turn of the last century. If you love wood molding, high ceilings and hardwood floors, this may be the place for you. However, if all the modern conveniences are what you're looking for, stay far, far away.

Apartments in this building do not have central air, washer & dryer hookups and many other amenities one would expect in a modern apartment complex. However, there are laundry facilities on the property, there is steam heat that is VERY warm (and VERY cheap!), there are window unit air conditioners that are very powerful and the fixtures are relatively new.

Complaints: Water pressure can be next to non-existant for hot water. Showers can be a bit chilly. Being close to the University of Louisville campus, a lot of inconsiderate college students may be your neighbors (management is usually quick to address the problem, however). Parking is mainly on the street, which can be a problem, especially when it snows. Parking is limited behind the building and the neighbors are extremely unpleasant if you park on their property.

Pros: The managment office is two doors down. The aforementioned decor. You're very close to downtown - a definite plus if you work downtown. If you ride the bus, there are stops for riding in all directions. Old Louisville is coming up in the world and, with the expansion of 4th Street Live, I'm betting there'll be more of an influx of people into the neighborhood.

I'm rating this three stars because three-and-a-half stars is not available. It's comfortable living at an affordable price.
