I thought I was getting such a great deal. A two BR w/den (basically a 3 bedroom) with a great amount of square footage in St. Matthews for a little less that $700/month'! Sounds too good to be true- and it was. The carpet was such poor quality that spilled water left a permanent stain. The paint jobs are crap- the whole time I was there I was unable to open one of my bottom kitchen cabinets because it had been painted shut. Forget scrubbing down walls- nothing is coming off of them. This may sound silly, but when you have kids you know you're going to be cleaning messes off of walls and carpets. Is it too much to ask to invest in some stain-resistant carpet and washable paint'! Plumbing never worked correctly in the year that I was there. I had to call maintenance 6 times to work on both toilets, both bathtubs, and all 3 sinks. No sooner would they leave than the leaks, etc. would start again. I finally gave up.
Noise is a big problem. Apparently, Mallgate is part of the ghetto. How else do you justify the nonstop noise of car stereo bass and wheels squealing at all hours of the night and day' Be careful crossing the parking lots- you are liable to get run over by these fools doing 60mph.
Walls are paper thin- I could hear my downstairs neighbor's t.v. well enough to tell you what show he was watching. Also heard plenty of fights from them (which I called the police AND Mallgate security about- of course SMPD were the only ones who responded- no wonder that man got killed, it's not like Mallgate is doing anything about security. But I digress). I even heard the neighbors having sex many times. Yeah, that was real pleasant.
Even tho' the apt. was only $690, once you factored in your "share" of the utilities it was much more, a couple of times in the winter it was over $800!!! You only get a couple of washers and dryers in the basement, and the washers are not even full size, so plan on spending a lot of money on laundry. We also had a problem with people from other buildings coming and doing their laundry in ours!
Dog poop and stray cats are everywhere. Walk in the courtyards at your own risk. No one bothers to pick up their dog's poop.
