East Chase started off looking like the perfect location... And for two straight years, my rent was payed on time every month, and the place was overall fine.
Then a check bounced. I was out of town, didn't find out what had happened until nearly the end of the month.
East Chase posted several notices on my door while I was out of town. They never once called me to find out why I wasn't removing them from my door, or responding to their inqueries.
Upon return, I was informed that they had already started legal action against me, and I would have to pay for next month plus the previous plus 50% of my rent in late fees - all in one payment, in order to clear it up.
Clearly, while I was technically in the wrong for bouncing a payment, there is also an amazing lack of common sense on the part of East Chase.
First, a simple phone call would have cleared things up - something I would have expected as a good-standing tenant of 2 years.
Second, upon my return, a little understanding as to the situation would have also been expected - there's a reason checks bounce, and therefore requiring two months' rent plus 50% on top in late fees might as well just be eviction without appeal.
And third, the final blow, since it's obvious I cannot and therefore will not be making good, they are legally required to provide 7-days' notice before sending out a sheriff to ensure that you've left the premises -- I just checked the door to the place, the paper was completed on the 15th, but they just posted it to the door today on the 20th. Tomorrow is the noted deadline.
Long story short, they've just kicked out a happy, satisfied tenant of two-years' good standing because, as it turns out, their policies and methods are predatory and unrealistic.
I would have recommended East Chase to anyone, prior to this mess. Now here I am posting this review as warning to anyone thinking about them. Mess up in the slightest, and you might as well start packing and finding a lawyer quick.
