Nice Place

My husband and I have really enjoyed living at Mallard Crossing. They are pricey but what a great location! And there is a path that goes around a pretty pond, great for dog walking. It's also across the street from Brown Park for longer walks. The office staff is very friendly. The maintenance crew is also friendly and they get things fixed very quickly. My only complaint about maintenance is that it's supposed to be available 24 hours a day (during the work week - there is no one to help with maintenance problems on the weekends) but none of them live at the apartments so they have to come from wherever they live. I called one night b/c our only toilet was clogged and he made me feel kind of guilty for making him come out b/c he lived in Indiana. I ended up telling him not to come b/c I felt so bad. That only happened once though.
A couple other problems that we have is that we have dogs and it's great that they have areas where they provide bags to pick up after them but those things are always out of bags! I have to call just about every other week to get someone to come out and refill them and if it's the weekend they don't do it. It's just annoying.
Also, if you have dogs or children, it's probably a good idea to request a ground floor unit. We live on the second floor and a couple times when we first moved in, our neighbor came upstairs asking us to keep it down. It was just our 38 lb dog running across the living room and he's very light on his feet. We have two dogs now and she says she doesn't even notice the noise any more but I do feel bad b/c there's nothing we can do.
Last year (2008), when we had that big snow storm in March, the sidewalks were cleaned off in a timely manner so that people could walk to their cars safely. This year, after the ice/snow storm, they NEVER came to clean off the sidewalks and it was VERY dangerous to walk to our cars. I know there are a few older people who live in my building, and it was hard for me to get to my car so I really don't know how they didn't hurt themselves.
The last thing that I found annoying was that I couldn't use my hair dryer in the bathroom outlet b/c it would blow the fuse. Every morning, I have to use an extension cord from the living room to dry my hair. It's not a huge deal but I don't know if all of the units have this problem, or just ours.
Other than those minor things, this is a great place to live. Neighbors are very friendly and it's nice and quiet. My husband loves to use the indoor basketball court. Our lease is up at the end of April this year and we were going to renew but they've raised the rent and it is too pricey for our one bedroom apartment. We can't afford any of their bigger floor plans so we have to move. We are sad to go...
