Me and my husband have lived here for about 1 1/2 yr. After reading previous posts, I gotta say we were lucky with our apartment. When we moved in, it was freshly painted, a new AC was installed (however, it's true there's only one unit for the whole place and summers are HOT inside!), appliances were in good condition (haven't failed so far either), the carpet was fairly new, with one burned spot (I think from an iron or something), but our rent was discounted because of the spot. There were no bugs whatsoever and we still haven't seen any, except for occasional small roaches, but we got rid of them. I've seen notices about exterminators sometimes, but I actually never encountered any. The hallways smell kinda musty, but they really don't get any air. I have to agree that the windows and insulation need desperate improvement. Fortunately, I never got laundry stolen, and the washers in our building have recently been replaced with new ones (which don't steal your coins like the old ones did sometimes, so annoying!). Neighbors are ok, but I agree that sometimes it smells like pot and there are some certain people who are very loud late at night in the parking lot. Never had a problem with finding a spot to park, thank God never had my car broken into. Never used the pool, since it was always crowded with a bunch of kids who were extremely noisy and splashed water everywhere. Regarding garbage, they come to pick it up 5am! Monday morning and the truck is so loud that it probably wakes up the whole complex (what a great start of the week)! I've seen it pile up sometimes though, especially when people are moving out and clean out their stuff. We never had a problem with the management, but we only see them when we pay the rent or pick up a package or something. And when your lease is over, if you don't want to renew right away, the month-to-month fee is only $25. Also, the location by the main road and on a bus stop is pretty convenient. I get to work in 10 min. All in all, it's really not a bad area, but the complex is old and it shows. Rent is quite affordable and for college students or young couples without kids I think it's a fair bet. If I had kids, however, I would rather live some place else, in a larger unit with better conditions and a balcony (I really miss a balcony/patio). Anyway, it all depends on what folks want and what their priorities are. We managed to save some money living here and it is convenient for commute. Like I said before, our apartment was and still is in a pretty good condition (no holes, dents, or leaks) and probably we just got lucky :) So, to anyone who is considering moving here - just see for yourself and weigh your pros and cons.
