Two of my high school friends and I wanted the experience of living together so we decided to move into an apartment. We got information and were put on a waiting list (we were first on the list). We received a call from the office several months later saying that they needed an answer from us immediately and acted like they were selling aparments left and right (bunch of crap).
One of my roomates moved in to the apartment on 8/14/05 and he was given all the keys. He gave us our keys and we moved in. Once we had our stuff in the apartment complex, we received a call to fill out papers. We were told that we should not have been given all the keys and that we should not put today's date on the highland plantation forms (16th), but the date of the 14th on the forms so they could cover themselves legally.
When we actually saw the apartment, the cupboard drawers were torn up and in rags, the drawers easily fell out, there were numerous scraps, cuts, cracks and holes in the walls and ceilings of every room. The bathroom toilets were cracked and ran constantly. Our frig smelled horribly (got rid of most of it with baking soda that we bought) and leaked water into our apartment because of a busted wire under the bottom drawer. When we told the office, the put duct tape over the wire that leaks water!' Needless to say that didn't fix the problem.
Our sink leaked water which they fixed 3 days after we told them (same day service in the contract). Our stove caught fire and they only replaced a burner (not the whole stove). Our dishwasher was missing several pegs to hold glasses and broke 4 of our 12 glasses. When our dishwasher broke on us it took the apartment 10 days to get around to fixing it. The plumbing in the apartment is horrid. Randomly the water shuts off for no reason - the apartment says that the main water valve breaks (every month').
Most of the neighbors can be ridiculously loud, either running down the sidwalk/walk ways, playing really loud music, or forgetting to turn off their alarm when they leave town and have it blare country music from 6am to 10am over the christmas holidays AND the office does NOTHING about it when you call them.
One of my friends had to leave the apartment because she was held at gun point and had her purse stolen.
The apartment has adequate parking for the residents, but literally 4 parking spots for visitors. They will tow ANY car that does not have a parking pass even if its been there only for 20 minutes. Its ridiculous. And if you have your car towed, you have to pay between $80 to $160 in CASH to get YOUR car back.
The office workers themselves are aloof and seem carefree. They know exactly what to say to seem interested and to get you to sign the contract, but once you are in their web of deceit - they screw you over.
