Cheap construction, great amenities

Review written in November 2007:

Pros:

These are some of the newest apartments in BR, and the 24-hour gym is amazing (and very well-kept by Angie, the on-site personal trainer.) Nice pool area, competent maintenance team. Lots of young professionals and families here. The car wash is a huge bonus as well! The gates also worked close to 100% of the time. No reports of car break-ins that I'd heard of. I felt very safe at the Regent.

Brand new washer and dryer included, free cable TV, and water is included in the $35 monthly maintenance fee. Not bad!

Cons:

They'll sell you on hardwood floors and granite countertops, but what you'll get is wood laminate and imitation granite that permanently stains when you spill orange juice. The construction is really poor for what you're paying, and the carpet stains easily. Have guests leave their shoes at the door or risk getting charged a ton for carpet cleaning on move-out.

The free wireless internet is completely useless, but they're supposedly replacing it with a better wi-fi service in 2008. Also, no hot tub at the pool area, in case that's a deal breaker for you. Some staff were rude and unhelpful, while some were nice. Luck of the draw whenever you go in there.

Summary:

If you've got cash to burn, and fitness and safety are important to you, The Regent is a nice place to live. This place beats out just about all other BR apartments in amenities but the construction is of lower quality than you'd expect for the price. I enjoyed my 13 months here but wouldn't be able to afford it without a roommate.

**UPDATE 2/10/09**

Since leaving the Regent I've lived in another luxury apartment complex, a house, and an urban living complex in Austin, TX, and the Regent is still the nicest place I've ever lived. I miss it every day compared to the crappy joint I'm at now, just for the gym alone!
