ok first and foremost, i just lived in a one bedroom at southgate last yr. While it was a nice experience it wasn't what i paid for and now they want about $1000 for a studio next yr, haha im glad i moved out. First off the leasing agent that signed me to pay $885 all bills included was let go shortly after i signed bc he told everyone a bunch of bs about how great everything at southgate would be and it never happened, no mcallisters, a gym was built towards the end of my stay which started in august, the elevators never worked, and until decemberish the luxury elevators still looked like cargo elevators w/out floors or walls, o and they made us sign this construction release form in march but promised construction would be done by june, i guess he must have meant june 2007 bc my gf and i loved waking up at 7 in the morning. this place is a joke. The prices are hilarious, I now live in los angeles and I have a buddy who is leasing an apartment in beverly hills for $1200 a month and it was comparable in size....BEVERLY HILLS, not baton rouge, la haha its cool though it was a decent experience but yea southgate is full of it. I was paying almost double what anywhere else in BatonRouge cost and I couldnt even park my second car in the totally empty parking garage bc i didnt want to pay them an extra fee,so i parked my brand new range rover outside and sure enough it got keyed TWICE.Originally southgate was supposed to be around a $60 million dollar project but their budget was slashed big time and it shows in the finish with cheap insualtion where if your tv is on it can be heard in the hallway, the luxurious "stained concrete" cloors are about as cheap as possible, and the security well its an 85 yr old man who walks around with a flashlight woopity doo, well there is this german shepard who just kinda roams around the property i guess he offers more than old farmer bob. The staff are mostly pompous except for Trae, he's cool, one lady told me i couldnt complain cb my $885 rent wasnt that big a deal and no it isnt, but when my old roommate lives next door at the commons for $320 a month it is a big deal, i mean after all real estate is all about location location location and in baton rouge you can live closer to LSU for about $400 at the commons or if you want a little nicer the venue is about $620 and u can WALK to school and not get the faux luxury of southgate and not have to deal with all the damn greek people there.
O and never leave anything on ur own countertop in the kitchen like say a $15,000 patek watch i bought my gf bc quality control people come in randomly 3-4 a month while ur gone and check stuff like ur AC when its completley fine and other things that are ok and they just take ur stuff and the manager will enver call u back bc she's probably out showing off her new watch
also do not lose ur 5 cent plastic keychain that has a southgate logo on it bc it is your pool tag that is never checked but if you nlose it its worth $500, another great scam by southgate to try to generate revenues to keep from bankrupcy i mean 100 dumb kids lose that keychain, its an extra $50,000 in income...probably the wisest move RW DAY ever made
another southgate scam, they sent me a bill saying i used about $75 a month in electricy when my lease only said i got $50 a month but i knew it was a scam bc i actually got $70 a month for usage, i checked my lease and called and they let said it was an accident but all these kids whose parents pay bills dont care but an extra $25 for 3-5 months a yr times another 100 apartments is a great way to pa your loans for another month or 2 without filing for bankrupcy
my advice to all would be to go live at the venue, my biggest mistake ever was moving from there, it has such a great college life atmosphere, whereas at southgate my neighbor was a 60 yr old man and his wife...i only met like 2 of my neighbors while at southgate, whereas at the venue i knew the entire first floor, no lie every single apartment i knew someone in it was awesome, and no i dont work for the venue but when u can live there and get a 800 sq ft loft for $1000 or a 560 sq ft apt at southgate i think youll understand bc at one point even i moved out an got an aprtment at the Reserve at Cedar Lodge just so i woulnt have to deal with the crapiness of southgate but eventually it got too ridiculous paying for 2 overpriced post katrina apartments not to mention talk about price gouging pre katrina southgate had a sign advertising condos for sale from the 160s post katrina about a week that sign magically read from the 200s i love these guys
o and when the next hurricane hits all of baton rouge will get electricity back the next day except for southgate its electricity willl be out for a week again bc they pay for electricity theyll keep it off for a few extra days save a couple bucks, no lie west campus apts didnt even lose electricity during Katrina but southgate did for a week
