One of the biggest disappointments of my life.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I lived in Southgate from August 2005 to May 2006. I was also lured in by the luxurious Baton Rouge accomodations and nice amenities.
I moved out of Southgate in May 2006. Recently, while waiting for the return of most of my $500 deposit, I received a letter in August from Southgate stating that I owe them $277. After emailing the director of leasing a detailed breakdown of the bill and everything incorrect about it, I receive no response. For a month. After repeated calls and emails.
Finally, she replied and said that I had forfeited my complete deposit because I notified Southgate of my intent to not-renew on April 3. My lease was up on May 9. Completely forfeited.
This is an accurate end to a year filled with the same problems. Overbilling, phantom electric rates after promises that the rent was all-inclusive with electricity, promises of a gym, and of course extremely pretentious treatment from the office workers, despite continously polite treatment towards them on my part. After all, I can't imagine how badly I would have been treated had I been on their bad side...
Now in my second year of law school, I plan on taking legal action against Southgate via the law firm where I work, and I encourage anyone with the same problems to band together and join me. In a single lawsuit, most of the Southgate residents can recover for their deposits, bad faith claims, unfair trade practices, and most likely fraud. I'm ready for Southgate to explain their financial practices, since they're taking advantage of just about every college-tenant I've spoken with to this date. If you are interested, please email me at charlie@ghwlaw.net. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Charlie Thomas x-2PE3sjUIIeetAHoKOk
