I would never recommend Southgate

There are so many things wrong with this apartment complex that I don't know where to begin.
My biggest problem is the animal waste in the stairwells. I live in tower three on the second floor, so when I take my dog out I take the stairs. I have lived here for eight months and there has been some sort of animal waste in the stairwells that I use about 2/3 of the time. I would call and call about it and the stairs were finally cleaned once late last year. To give you an idea, there was a piece of dog poop in the stairs for over two months. I finally wrote a formal complaint, took it to the office, and had the manager sign that she had received and understood my complaint. She told me that the stairs were fully cleaned each month and that she personally walked the stairs monthly to make sure they were clean. She flat out lied to me. I walked these stairs several times a day. The stairs were cleaned the next day, after I threw around the phrase "health code violation," but there's more urine in the stairwell that has been there for three weeks. The manager (Keffney Breland) has not returned my calls. (Another stairwell had bright red vomit puddles at the bottom of the stairs, and that also stayed there for at least a week or so)
Additionally, I just returned from a trip to find a lease violation on my counter. It's for "leaving garbage/debris on patio or balcony." My balcony has one cup sitting on a table, and a small umbrella on it. I've also called about this but as of yet I've not received a response.
The staff has lost an unreasonable amount of our paperwork. Note: Get receipts, and have things that you turn in signed and copied.
Twice in the past month, we've gotten notices that Southgate would be coming into our apartments for 30 minute inspections. I'm not comfortable with the staff coming in without me being there. It just sounds shady to have that many inspections.
Oh-and the "security'" At various times, the gates stand open and outside doors are broken. Recently, one of the security guards let my very intoxicated friend into the building at about 2 a.m. when he couldn't figure out how to work the call box. And yes, my friend did tell the security guard that he didn't live at Southgate.
Lastly, these apartments are quite noisy. There's still construction going on. Also, the walls are concrete, so screws that go up on the walls have to be screwed through the concrete. This has only happened about 20 times in the past 8 months, but I'll wake up to deafening sounds of things being screwed into the walls. My walls actually shake. We can also hear everything that goes on in the apartment above ours. If the residents above us drop or slide anything, or if they walk around in heels or flush the toilet, we hear it.
I know a lot of this sounds petty, but it is just so aggravating to live here. These are by no means "luxury" apartments. The pool and the location are great, but everything else is absolutely terrible. My recommendation would be just to not live here. It's terrible.
Oh-and some people on here defend Southgate by saying that the residents that have problems with the apartments don't read/understand their lease or that they are rowdy college students. Those things are not the case with me. I have lived in various apartments/houses, and have had almost no problems. Southgate is simply not a good place to live.

I have lived at Southgate since August, and I absolutely love it here. As a Southgate Towers pet owner, it's frustrating to see careless pet owners assume that the workers at Southgate will frantically pick up after them. With as much as I pay to live here, I would expect people to pick up after their animals, AND keep them on leashes. However with all the young students around here, allowing their pets to actually RUN into my apartment...I blame the actual owners. I blame the college students who were not raised with discipline. I constantly use the stairwells, and every single night, some idiot on my hall breaks the door leading out, and every single day it's magically fixed... You can't expect a small staff to stop STUPIDITY, Disrespect, and Idiocy. Every time I've called, or asked for something to be done, they've looked into it and fixed it. So obviously that???s not the problem. As far as the inspections, No one entered my apartment. I called down to ask when I could let my animal out, and was told they had only selected a few apartments, but as a courtesy they had to let everyone know about it.
As far as the recent construction...I can't ever hear that in my apartment. EVER.
