if you want to be treated like elephant feces, live here

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I couldn t have been more excited to be moving into University Crescent with my four best friends. Anything was better than the jail cell-sized dorm room from freshman year. I mean, who wouldn t be excited about living in an apartment with your best friends right' Well my happy thought bubble burst the second we pulled into the apartment complex. Naturally, there was a line; however they didn t allow people in the office until noon-ish, probably the hottest part of the day in august. We patiently waited for our golden keys, literally, and as we stood in the unbearable heat, we started to hear complaints. Comments such as, Our apartment is infested with maggots! and There are busted walls, broken appliances and furniture, and mold growing all over the walls and ceiling! are just a couple of horror stories we heard. How lovely! We remained as calm and positive as possible, hoping we would be spared from nightmares such as these. It was around 3 pm when we got our keys from the office, which by this time had no AC. We dragged ourselves up a flight of stairs only to find out that they gave us the wrong keys. So after holding back our aggravated parents from ripping the management to shreds, we all went back and had this problem straightened out. Supposedly the fact was that the manager prior to the big move in day was released from the job because he or she did some things they weren t supposed to do, and the maintenance crew quit the day before move in day. I prayed and convinced myself that nothing worse could happen. Oh, to be young and na ve!
During the Christmas break, the residents were given fair warning that there would be apartment checks. That s fair game; however, the residents were given no notice of apartment checks before the Mardi Gras break. Why is that such a big deal' I ll tell you why. University Crescent s management must be dumb if they do not realize how people from New Orleans live in their complex. It should have been no surprise that most of us would be leaving Baton Rouge to celebrate this holiday. I paid my rent on February 4th and left, assuming I had nothing else to take care of because I was not informed that I had to do anything but follow my normal routine. Apparently, apartment checks were conducted and residents were not informed. I did not come back until the next week and when I arrived, I found a surprise clipped outside of my apartment door. Hanging for the world to see, naked and exposed, was my rent check, stapled to a paper that said I needed to pay immediately. I owed $8 and something for broken blinds. By the time I got the check it was after the office s closing hours. The next day I woke up early so that I could talk to the manger about the issue and there was another paper clipped outside. It said that I owed late rent fees for not returning my new check with the damage fees on time. Wait I paid on time and then they gave me my check back and clipped it outside for the world to see my check, with my full name, address, checking account number, and even which room I sleep in a whole day after everyone left for the break. The best part was that the paper saying I owed late rent was dated a day earlier so they didn t even give me the notice on time! I fought for a fair agreement and the managers I dealt with were ridiculous. They pretty much broke the law and hung my personal information out for anyone to steal and view! But I had to suffer and pay over $500 compared to the usual $436. They continually threatened to make me pay more late fees and accused me of coming in their office with an attitude of not wanting to pay, which is absolutely unprofessional and ridiculous. I did not raise my voice once until now. If this doesn t prove that this place is terribly managed and should be bulldozed then my next story will.
A friend of mine lives on the first floor in building three. Randomly one day, raw sewage started overflowing out of their kitchen sink and flooding the floor. She called the office and instead of coming to see the problem or addressing it immediately, they asked if it could wait.
Recently, broken glass was scattered all over the parking lot between buildings 4 and 5. After about four days it was reported. An employee, in the presence of the manager, asked if that person had a broom they could clean it with and they were serious.
Our neighbors were robbed twice and we live on the second floor. The second time her car was being broken into around 6 pm when it was still light out side
Moral of my story: Do not do business with College Park Communities, especially University Crescent, unless you want to be lied to and disrespected, possibly robbed, or if you want to inhale mold into your lungs for months and develop terrible allergies. DO NOT LIVE HERE! RENTING A HOUSE IS SO MUCH CHEAPER AND SAFER!
