My stay here

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005
I moved in mid-year because my old roomate was moving out at the last apartment. Here is my analysis of the Tiger Plaza apartments.
I read things on here before and got a mixed attitude. Some where good and some were bad.
The apartment itself is nice, not top notch, but nice. There is a good layout and the extras are convenient (Alarm system, W/D, 2 bathrooms and huge walk-in closets). The place is old so you might find a few things that are run down inside, but for the most part, they have renovated well.
The ameneties are nice. The gate is cool. They have a cybercafe which is nice. The computers are fast in there and they offer complimentary popcorn, hot chocolate and fountain drinks. So that is neat. They also have an ATM machine in there as well as a fax.
The pool area is nice.
Okay so here comes the negatives....
We moved in three months ago and they have yet to put our names in the visitors box at the gate. They only inputed our names in the residents box, but when guests come over, the normally go to the visitors (obviously). We have reported several times.
Our water went out once for a couple hours...but I suppose that is okay being in an apartment.
The noise is fair but not horrible. I don't live on the bar side of the complex.
Parking is not too bad especially comparing it to campus.
Drainage and mud can be an issue outside.
The worst thing is the service. I know it often takes several days for them to repair small problems. You must call several times. The people in the office are normally friendly as are the workers, but I just think that they could be more efficient in repairing.
My biggest complaint thus far has just come up. We signed a half-year lease at $800 a month (which was discounted at a 2 for 1 deal). They said that it would end in July and we would have to re-sign by the end of March to renew another lease, which would last 12 months. We specifically asked if we resigned in March, would the rent remain at $800. The response was "YES, along as you renew by March 31st." We received a letter at the beginning of March reminding us to re-sign the lease and stating that our rent would raise $60 to $860 a month. When asked why this is, they responded that if we had resigned earlier, we may have gotten it cheaper. It was all based on supply and demand. The moral of this complaint is to not take their word when it comes to the terms of the lease. If they say something, get it in writing. Although we had three people in the room to confirm what was said initially, we did not have it in writing. I would not be suprised if the apartment takes advantage of many of its residents in such a way.
This alone makes me upset about the apartment and its operations. Other than this, I have been mostly satisfied.
