Not too bad

So I've been renting the "efficiency" sized apartment and haven't had too many complaints. The neighbor above me sounds like he must be 500 pounds(really he's probably 200) stomping around and the fan on the ceiling jingles because of it, but you can expect that from any apartment complex. I have able to keep my electricity bill in the 40 dollar range in the winter and in the summer about 60, but I do prefer the smell of fresh air. I have kept the bedroom fan on all day sans the air conditioner also with the electricity still at 40 dollars. I have only submitted a few non-emergency maintenance requests that have been filled within two days. They have only checked fire extinguishers once per year. I lived two of the three weeks here after Gustav without electricity which wasn't too bad. I would have prefered more than one window when trying to sleep without electricity. The arms in front of the security gates get hit pretty often and I've had tailgaters into the complex which I still have no idea if the management looks into this. They accept packages, even my unassembled tv stand with only a few gripes from the Office manager not wanting big packages in her office. They only had to wait one day for someone to come help me get the piece up the stairs so gripes shouldn't have been an issue. Not a lot of parties that I have heard, but my building isn't the only one in the complex. I don't hear my neighbors unless they are in the stairwells yelling and carrying on. I feel the college students in the complex are pretty mature and aren't throwing wild parties. Management staff is pretty helpful and seem to care if you need soemthing fixed. Also, don't let the descriptions in the brochure fool you. Formica counters with a granite looking finish, nice ceramic tile only in the entry, carpets could use a better stain remover because I don't want to be charged because the person before me couldn't clean them very well, faucet in kitchen doesn't reach the drain which makes garbage disposal smoke out the other drain, and crown moulding only in the common areas that looks unfinished. Pluses would be the washer and dryer in unit, big walk-in closet, good sized bedroom for the "efficiency" model, can hang many pictures and even your flat screen tv on the the wall, and love the balcony for being able to enjoy the good weather. My only two gripes would be that people try to fill up one trash container instead of going to another and a few choice people can't park between two lines. I say if you can't park between two lines, you probably shouldn't have a license. There are four trash containers on the property which is more than adequate. I love that the complex allows for pets for a one time fee without monthly pet charges. You have to clean up after your pet and the complex provides the handy dandy bags for this in four places. All in all maybe the rent could have been a tad cheaper seeing how the "custom" look isn't really provided throughout the apartment.
