Sunlake the WORST ever

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

I lived at Sunlake pre-Katrina for 2 years and had a wonderful experience, the apt was great and it was a great atmosphere. When we returned from the storm my apt had mold everywhere and we were told we could leave without breaking the lease, but the only way we would have our deposit returned is to clean out the refridgerator. that was done. then 1 1/2 years later we needed a place to live and moved back to Sunlake. Keep in mind that Pre-Katrina our rent was $435; this jumped to $655 $30 for water 1 1/2 years later. On my move-on day, after the lease was signed, we went to walk the apartment and there was a "moist" feeling throughout the apt. the walls were not painted, the carpet was not clean, the light fixtures were full of roaches and ants, the toilet was full of roaches, the tub wasn't clean, the cabinets were missing handles, the a/c unit was full of mold, the door knobs were disgutingly dirty, etc. the exterior still had debris from the hurricane. So when we went to the maintenance office to tell them that we just paid over $1000 to move in and we waited 2 weeks, that the apt was not move in ready. they would not come check it because it was too close to lunch time. we asked for our money back and they said no we will be there in 20 min. So 20 min later they came to the apt and said that it was ok and they would send maint. so after only fixing 20% of the problems we moved in. everyday there were 10-20 roaches in the apt, we complained and they said the pest control only came out every 6 months so we would have to wait. my husband went and bought roach baits for our apt (which did not kill all of them) and for the apt next door because it was vacant. they made us put the roach baits next door and we found out it was a "storage" apt. we went to the corporate office to complain, and we brought a bag of dead roaches that were found in and around our aprtment. one day later, we received a letter asking us to move because "we complain too much" and were told that we were put on the Tonti Management do not rent to list. They only gave us 2 weeks to find a place. after we did find a place, they would not return the calls of the next apt complex to give previous rental because they were busy. so we had to call and cause a commotion just to get them to give out the info after they asked us to leave. i would NEVER suggest anyone move into a TONTI MANAGEMENT apartment.
