Be wary - you get what you pay for...

If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive apartment that is "okay," then this apartment complex is for you. My husband and I moved to Lafayette and chose Emberwood because it seemed inexpensive and we were saving to buy a house - which we did eventually buy.

Point by point, here is a summary of our experience:
1. Office staff is unhelpful. You have to call repeatedly to get anything fixed in your apartment. In fact, when we moved out, things still weren't fixed - we were waiting for a piece for our microwave, a piece of drywall in the bathroom was still taped together, among other things. The office staff were extremely unhelpful when we moved out. Oh, and if there is a storm/hurricane, do not expect the staff to stick around to help residents. They evacuated 2 days befrore Hurricane Rita, even though Lafayette was not hit. I was away for Hurricane Katrina, so I cannot comment upon that.

2. The maintenance staff - including pest control - can walk into your apartment at any given time. Once, the pest control (with maintenance staff) walked into my apartment when I was getting out of the shower. I thought it was my husband coming home from work early, and, well, I walked out of the bedroom, naked, to greet him. The pest control and maintenance staff got quite an eyeful. After that incident, I took to wedging a chair up against the front door, so that people could not just walk into my apartment at any given time. Also, the pest control people do not double-lock the doors (there is a button lock on the door handle plus additional turn lock above it) after they leave your apartment. A few times the pest control people have come to spray when I've been away on vacation and have not locked the door properly. I called the office to complain about this only to be told that they have no control over an outside company. EXCUSE ME' You have no control over a company you employ''' Bullsh*t, in my opinion. You employ them, you can tell them to double-lock the doors.

3. As stated by other reviewers, the walls are paper-thin. I could hear the neighbor behind me snoring - among other noises. And if you have actually noisy neighbors (like the strippers with their abusive boyfriends who lived below us until they suddenly disappeared, leaving red notices), well, you will hear every word and every note of music. I've lived in a few apartments since graduating from college, and this was - by far - the worst.

4. Back to pest control. No matter how much they spray, there will be bugs. The South gets bugs. It's just not dealt with well by this apartment management.

5. Although there is plenty of parking, it is not very secure.

6. Deposit. You will not get your entire deposit back - no matter how well you clean the apartment. And the office staff are a-holes about it, too.

7. Your rent will be raised considerably, unless you commit to another 12-month lease. For example, our rent was raised by only $20 when we signed another 12-month lease. However, if we wanted to sign a 6-month lease, it would have increased by $100. And if we wanted to go month-to-month, it would have increased by $200!

All in all, I do not recommend this apartment complex.

I'm a firm believer that if you keep your kitchen clean and dry, also your bathrooms, pest will not be tempted.
