Poor Management
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 1/3/2008
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
My daughter lived at French Colony for awhile and had a very poor experience. The complaints about management are real, they don't respond to requests for maintenance, even serious maintenance issues that seriously affect the quality of living of their tenants. There are laws against this, but the transient nature of the tenants (most of them, I am sure some have been there long term) results in the apartment leases having a high turnover, people moving in and out quickly. The particular apartment my daugher leased was in very poor shape and really very dirty when she moved in. We had to deep clean it before we could begin moving her belongings in. I don't think they hire professional painters, they must use their maintenance people. The paint job was so bad it really looked like children had been used. Honestly, paint drips and spills were everywhere, on ceilings, floors, wood cabinets, inside cabinets, tubs. And the closet where the air conditioner was kept was filthy black with mold built up in it and what looked like years of built up dirt. The carpeting was dirty, stained and smelled moldy. She was charged over $600 a month for a two bed two bath. She was never able to use her second bath in the entire year that she lived there, she reported it four times and it was not fixed until about three weeks before her lease expired. She was not offered a return on her rent for not having use of this tub for a year. The tub leaked the first time she used it and all the water went into her closet, ruined several pairs of shoes and the carpet in the closet stayed wet and eventually started smelling of mold. Management of course did not ever come in and shampoo the carpet, she just had to live with it. Nor did they offer to replace the shoes and other clothing that was damaged by the water. She had proplems with her dish washer (would not dry dishes) and they claimed to have repaired the problem, but it never worked properly the entire time she lived there. I shampooed the carpets for her, cleaned up as much of the paint drip mess as I could. Basically the owner of the property and management of the property are all making a good living off the complex. They keep the rent low so that occupancy stays high. If one tenant gets angry they just move them out and move another one right in. It's nothing to them, it's all in a day's "work". My advice to anyone looking for an apartment to live in that's economical, don't choose this one. Pay a little more each month, you can get a good, clean, well maintained apartment with working appliances and updated decor for an additional $50 to $100 a month. Cut back on eating out something, you won't be sorry to pass this place up. It's not worth the "savings" LOL that management tries to sell you on!!! Drive on down the road!!
