I stayed at the Landing Apartments for a little over a year. The building itself was nice, although, my floor plan (2 bed, 1 bath) had an oddly set up kitchen and there was very little closet space. There were only two small closets in the whole apartment... seriously! The grounds of the complex were nice with lots of mature trees. The pool/club house/fitness area were modest, but nice. I wouldn't say that the apartments were completely quiet as there was one tenant who took the muffler off his diesel truck and another tenant with a motorcycle and you know how loud those things can get. However, you can never completely get away from the noise at any apartment unless all of your neighbors are elderly and you live in the woods. Most of the tenants are young families and older business people. What really made my experience miserable was the staff. When I moved in, many of the doors were painted shut. There were a lot of marks and chips on the walls. The roof over the patio apparently had a leak at one point and it looked like they tried to fix it, but got lazy and stopped fixing it halfway because there was an area where there was no paint on the boards. And yes, when it rained hard, which happens a lot in south Louisiana, it leaked all over the patio. The complex has an infestation of carpenter bees and the management refused to exterminate because they said the bees were harmless. For those of you who do not know, carpenter bees drill holes in the exterior wood. They slowly, but surely, make tunnels in the wood like termites but on a smaller scale. And, of course, with all that drilling of wood comes sawdust that is mixed with their saliva that they spit out in every direction. The refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher are the original appliances when they built the complex in the early 80's. The tile in the entryway was cracked and coming loose from the floor. The maintenance staff was very dumb and very lazy. They would always make up an excuse for why not to fix or replace something instead of just doing it. One of the staff in the office, her name is Barbie (and yes she is tall, white, and blond) is a conniving liar. She thinks she is so much more culturally sound than everyone else. I've seen her talk down some of her co-workers. And the manager, Dianne Butler, is ruining the place with bad management skills. She doesn't even step up to people. She just hides in her office and lets Barbie do all the talking. From what I've heard, the Landing used to be a really nice place until Dianne became manager and the people starting leaving in droves. There were so many people who left while I was there that the management started letting current residents live month to month (which they never do) and keep the rent rate from the last time they renewed the lease even though the current rate may have risen. But that still didn't keep people from moving. Oh, and they kept the move-in "special" going the entire time I was there. After I moved out I received a letter from them saying that they had to replace the carpet in the entire apartment, remove hooks from the bathroom doors and do general cleaning. All of this cost over $1300. They said that I owed $770 after my deposits were taken into consideration. First of all, they only needed to replace the carpet in the 2nd bedroom from a cat stain and the carpet in the living room from a bleach stain. The carpet elsewhere was perfectly good. Plus they tried to say that I only gave them a $250 deposit and a $300 pet deposit, but I also gave them another $300 pet fee. They're basically trying to milk me for all I'm worth, I guess to make up for all the empty rooms they have. To end, I would say to anyone reading this to pick any other apartment in Lafayette, even Mainstreet or the Crescent.

Mr. Joseph Pitre,
I am sure that if anyone saw or more importantly smelled the apartment that you vacated, they would not want to move into it. This is why the carpets must be removed. Actually, the carpets and padding were ripped out the day you vacated and (2 weeks later) the apartment still smells like cat urnine. I will have to treat the concrete before I can replace the carpet and pad. When we spoke Mr. Pitre, I agreed to furnish you with receipts, so I don't understand your question regarding the cost.
You would not have moved into this apartment if I had delivered it to you this way. Your other completly false accusations regarding my staff and I are just vicious and untrue. My staff and I were accommodating in every way as we are with everyone. The only time we receive complaints is when someone does not adhere to our policys. You are just not wanting to take responsibilty for the damage your pet did.
Readers, The Landing is a wonderful place to live and this is why I have past residents returning to live in our commmunity all the time.
