Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2009
I was a resident at Summer Place Apartments for a number of years and I will say that when I first moved there everything was ok. The apartment was nice and the staff seemed nice as well. The first impression didn't last very long though. They constantly had swimming pool problems where they had to close the pool or pools during times when they would normally be used. This summer, they didn't open the pools until after school was out. But that is not my main issue. My problems started when I tried to upgrade to a 2br from a 1br. They promise me one apartment just as soon as it came available, but they gave it to someone else instead. They claimed they forgot. I had to take another apartment instead in a location I really didn't care for. When I moved in, I notified them with the maintenance problems that it had. One of the problems was a very noisy bathroom fan, which was never repaired. After a few weeks there were leaks from the faucets in both bathtubs. Well they fixed the leak, but then I had water coming out the shower head and the faucet at the same time when we had to take a shower. This limited the shower time to 5 minutes or less because all my hot water was going down the drain faster than normal. I have video to prove it and you wouldn't believe how bad it was. This was the "diverter" problem I had in both showers that took over 2 years to repair. At first I was told it was too expensive for them to repair, and then I was told it was being scheduled. This went on and on until about 6 months before I moved out. It took them over 2 years to repair my showers. Getting them to make simple repairs or take care of minor issues was not a problem, but if something required extra expense or work, than you are out of luck. I had to stay on their back to finally get anything done. The last bad experience I have had with them is that I expected a refund of deposit after I finally moved out. Out of a $200 deposit they told me I could forfeit $50 for letting them clean the carpets or I could have it professionally done. I chose to forfeit $50 dollars. I am now being told that they are keeping $80 for cleaning the carpet and $25 for the fireplace which they say was not cleaned. I made double sure that my apartment was clean before I left. I vacuumed my fireplace and they lied about the carpet cleaning. I have no idea what they expected on the fireplace.
Management is very difficult to deal with and if you want to go over their head, they will not give you the number of their management company in Baton Rouge. While living there, I also heard and shared complaints with other residents. Most complaints had to do with not getting things done timely and dealing with rude and inconsiderate management. I saw a lot of staff changes and the one outstanding thing I noticed was that the nice ones don't last.
One more thing, the same management company also manages Bridgewater Apartments. If you're looking for an apartment complex that genuinely cares about you and providing excellent service, then don't move to Summer Place apartment or Bridgewater Apartments.
All they care about is your money!
