Nice places, but difficult to move in and out of.

I rented from Tchefuncte Harbour Townhomes for roughly 1.5 years, and really enjoyed my stay. My 2 BR/2 BA townhome came with a boat slip, dock, and access to the river. Fishing from the dock was always very good. The townhomes are somewhat old, but seem to be in good condition for the most part. It's also a gated community, so the added security is a plus. Other pluses are the existance of a whirlpool tub, and a swimming pool on the premises. Also, at the end of my lease, I was allowed to continue on a month-to-month basis for an extra charge. A 30-day notice to vacate was required.
My issues with THT are as follows:
1) With limited access in and out of the townhomes, it was horrible moving in and out of the townhome. You have to rent a manual forklift from the townhome for $50.00 in order to lift your belongings from the ground to the balcony on the second floor. If you are moving in or out yourself, be sure to have some extra muscle around, as you will need it.
2) The washer/dryer connections are located in a room on the dock. It was somewhat of a pain carrying dirty clothes down two flights of stairs to the washer.
3) On move out day, the rep really nitpicked about things that most don't, and tried to blame me for issues that already existed.

Well....due to the date of the listing that I am referring to...everything is somewhat passe at this point in 2008. However, I will confirm exactly what the above listing is saying in every respect. (1) Yes, all of the amenities are great ....especially when compared to anything else in the rest of the country...(USA). (2) Yes, the issues with moving in and out are definately an issue...however, I am sure that those reading this review are thinking well a person does not have to move in if the logistics are unfavorable. Well...that is certainly true. However, it does not become clear as to what the primary issues are regarding moving in and out until one is already in the process. On our moving in, we encountered the exact same sentiment to move in...rent our crank lift to move everything into the balcony....a v..e...r..y.. shake approach indeed. One only finds out that the unit has to be rented from the property at the time of move in and then realizes what a shakey deal the crank lift is...a basic Genie lift ...not a good way to go. Then on moving out, we just rented a powered commercial fork lift unit to move everything in and out...we were met with "good Ol' Boy" hostility to say the least....which just confirms the move in approach sentiment of the management...the attitude of the property management was to subtly intimidate the renter into useing the less than adaquate hand crank unit. But like I said in the beginning, this review is somewhat passe since our experience was in 1998 - 1999. Now the units are managed and sold by a completely different entity. The location and set up truly is very unique and wonderfull. It is just very unfortunate that the existing management at that time felt the need to be "good ol' boy" in order to manage the property.
