DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY

I lived in this place for 3 years until Hurricane Katrina forced me out, and for most of that time, I would have rated it okay, if nothing special. That changed forever after the storm; the management illegally evicted myself and every other 1st floor resident and THREW AWAY our possessions, without even notifying us! Because of the way the management treated myself and their other tenants after Katrina, I would urge everybody not to go within 100 miles of this place, or any other place owned by this company.

My apartment took on 4 inches of water during the storm, but my property was undamaged when I was able to check it, though I couldn't get it out at the time. I still wanted to return, and called the managers and left info for them to contact me in Houston, where I had evacuated to. I then tried unsuccessfully to reach them for nearly 3 weeks, during which time another hurricane passed through, trapping me in Houston. After my phone calls went unanswered, I finally reached someone at the other Terraces complex, who told me that my place had already been cleared out, and my stuff thrown away.

They told me that the deadline to get our things out, which had already long since passed, had been posted on fliers put on the doors -- at a time when their phones and mail service were not working, and the parish had only been opened back up to residents for a few days. I had also paid my rent for the month, and the governor had even legally banned evictions until Oct. 25 (not that the managers had followed proper legal procedure for evicting residents to begin with.) They had made NO effort to contact me, and they directly violated every landlord-tenant law in the book, and their whole response to me was basically "screw you, it's your problem".

After that, I contacted every legal and law enforcement agency in the area, and also filed a lawsuit against the owners for my personal property that they trashed. After months of stalling and trying to dodge responsibility for their actions, they finally paid me an out-of-court settlement of $6000. Hopefully, they learned their lesson, but from what I've read from other residents, I doubt it.

In any case, there is NO reason for anyone to pay a dime to these people, or to entrust them with your personal property or security. They are a disgrace to their profession -- glorified looters and punks who are lucky they aren't in jail right now. This is no joke -- please do yourself a favor and DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.

I wish I'd seen this before I moved here. No wonder rent is so high, they have to pay settlements. (not saying anything bad about you) These people are ridiculous and I intend to inform the Better Business Bureau upon my lease expiration.
