Overall, this is a nice apartment building for the price. The area has a lot to offer including City Park, NOMA and the street car across the street, as well as Bayou St. John for running, walking the dog, canoeing, etc. Walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants and Fair Grounds/Jazz Fest is a big bonus. The swimming pool, cafe, hair salon and small grocery store within the building are nice little perks too. Add to that electric and water included in the rent and you have a great value.
However, maintenance and security leave much to be desired. One of the two main elevators has been out of order forever with no plans to have it fixed (as far as anyone can tell). The same can be said for the wheelchair lift. The parking is "secure" in a very loose sense of the word. There is a gated parking lot on site, but the main gate has been removed since Jazz Fest and the second gate is only sometimes locked at night. Having said that, there haven't been any reported problems with car burgleries or thefts.
We've been satisfied with our experiences with the staff. Most have been friendly and helpful. The apartments themselves are pretty standard (but adequate) even after the renovation. The pool and gym are functional. Many seniors stay here which leads to a pretty quiet environment.
