Not a place for you and your pets!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007
I lived at Palmetto Creek Apartments for 2 1/2 years. I was thrilled when I moved in. The layout is beautiful and the size is very accomodating. The closet in the master bedroom is too small and many times I could hear kids beside or above me but overall I was very happy. You have to realize it is an apartment and not always will it be quiet.
However, after Katrina the service went down hill quickly! My biggest complaint is that there wasn't enough parking, so I had to park outside of the gated property. This was very frustrating to me. I paid extra to live in a gated community and only had one vehicle, but was often unable to find a place to park when I came home from work at 7:00pm or 8:00pm. Again, I had ONE vehicle, and certainly should have had one spot to park inside the gated communicty. However, many times I had to park in front of the office or in the Sports Store parking lot. In a city where safety is an issue, I was appalled that this was not a top concern of Management.
Additionally, the sprinklers were set in the direction of the cars. One morning I had to climb through the passenger side of my car so I didn't get wet from the sprinkler. When I approached maintenance/office about the issue I was told to park in a different spot if this was an issue. This is the same property that doesn't have enough parking to begin with.
Also, the gates to the property do not work half of the time, so be prepared for constant problems. The scan bar sticker does not always work, so if you can't get in you have to wait for someone to leave or follow someone into the property. This is a safety issue! If this occurs after hours and you call the emergency line they tell you it is not an emergency that you can't drive into the property. One night I couldn't get in, because my scan stikcer wasn't working nor was I given a key to the side gate when I moved in. I waited for a half hour for someone to come in or out of the property so I could get in. As far as I'm concerned - this is an emergency.
As a single female, safety is a great concern to me. One morning a maintenance man entered my apartment in the am while I was still there getting ready for work. I did not receive prior notification that they were entering that day, nor did I hear a knock at the door. They entered my apartment at 8:15am, turned off my alarm and left a note in the entry way from the office. I didn't know they were in there that morning until I left that apartment around 8:30am and saw the note laying on the floor. When I called the office, it was dismissed as a "simple mistake."
Finally, I lived at the property for 2 1/2 years with a cat. He never soiled the carpet nor caused any type of damage. However, they deducted additional money from my pet deposit to pay for deordorizing the carpet. I already had paid a monthly pet rent, acknowledged that there was a non-refundable portion of the pet deposit but then had another $110 deducted from my pet deposit. They did nothing in the apartment during the time I lived there. Keep in mind that if I had moved out they would have had expenses to release (carpet cleaning, painting, etc.); yet they deducted additional money from my pet deposit.
I have lived in Apartment Communities in Dayton, OH; Houston, TX; and Denver, CO. NEVER has this been an issue except for Palmetto Creek. This is the least pet friendly community that I have ever lived. Quite frankly, the worst property that I have ever lived.
I would not recommend this property to anyone.
