The worst apartment complex I've lived in

In the last 6 months that we've been here, the apartment seems to be falling apart. A shelf in the closet that is rotted was reported when we moved in, but was never fixed. There are bleach stains on the carpet and it's coming up in certain corners of the apartment. Water is leaking from the AC and is dripping onto the hot water heater which is a huge fire hazard. The AC control unit isn't secured to the wall and is only hanging by wires. We had to put a thumb tack in the wall to hold it up so the AC would come on, and even then, you can see sparks when it's moved. For some reason, the bathtub was painted before we moved in and it has chipped away. No one can take a bath because paint chips come off in the water. The shower knob in the shower just keeps turning and water constantly pours from the shower head even when the shower is off. There are huge spots on the walls where repairs were made but never painted over which left big patches of white on random walls throughout the apartment. There is no peep hole in the door, so you have to look out the window when trying to see who is standing at your door. Maintenance comes into the apartment, whether someone is home or not, to make repairs that are NOT urgent. My husband and I came home after buying groceries one day and our door was unlocked. We walked in and there were window blinds sitting in the living room floor. A maintenance guy was in our bedroom rehanging blinds that were perfectly fine to begin with. We have laptops, cash, checks, credit cards and other expensive items sitting in our room right on the desk where he was changing our blinds. The balcony/porch lean down, so it feels as if the porch is going to fall off the structure when you're standing on it. The stove is so ancient, the burners are crooked and don't stay in place when trying to cook on the stove top. When baking, the surface gets just as hot as the inside of the stove, I've burnt my self countless times because of this. There are ants in the kitchen that I can't seem to get rid of. I've bought ant bait and they just keep coming back. I can't remember how much food we've thrown away because the ants got into it. The light in the kitchen is fluorescent and doesn't come on all the way when turned on. The plastic cover had a crack in it, so when my husband tried to see if the lights weren't in the socket all the way, the plastic cover broke. The toilet seat is coming off of the toilet and can't even be screwed back together. There are dips in the floor through out the apartment, I almost tripped countless time when I was pregnant. Our balcony faces the pool, which is dirty all the time. There is trash, hair and no telling what else floating in the water. While I was laying by the pool one day, a child went to the bathroom in the bushes by the pool. When he was done, his mother wiped him with a towel and then proceeded to rinse the towel in the hot tub. Another child leaned over the side of the pool while still inside and threw up. His father just rinsed it down the side walk and some got into the pool. The laundry room is always dirty and only has 8 washers and 8 dryers for the entire complex. A note was left on our door saying that the fire place would be cleaned the next day. That was 3 weeks ago and our fire place is still dirty. The "lights" in the parking lot are falling apart and most don't work, which is a safety hazard. My wallet was stolen out of my car by one of the maintenance, and when I asked who found it, no one could tell me. This apartment complex is poorly managed and the maintenance is very slow when a work order is put in to fix a problem. We made the mistake of not seeing the apartment before renting it which was a HUGE mistake and will never happen again. This place is too expensive for the amount of problems that it has and I would not recommend this crap hole to anyone, not even a first time renter.

I lived at Pier Landing two years ago for six months and we never had any problems. We lived in one of the townhouses though. When we were in the process of moving out and into our new house someone did steal a little $40 grill that was left outside but that's it. But the story you told about the kids at the pool seems a bit exaggerated to me, c'mon...a kid poops next to it, and another throws up at the same time...sounds incredulous.
Unless you are military and/or have to move around constantly, I don't know why people continue to even rent apartments anymore. Most houses are the same price per month as apartments nowadays, and you know what you're getting beforehand...

Actually the kids at the pool happened in the same day, and no, it's not exaggerated. If you like the damn apartment complex, you live here. And for your info, I am military, so no, we don't really have a lot of choices for places to live. We didn't look at the property before we moved in because we had to have a place to live ASAP. And as for renting a house, the only nice houses for rent, that aren't ghetto in this crap hole called Louisiana, are all the way out in Haughton. I'm not driving 30 mins to and from work every day. So your opinion on the matter means jack ---- to me.

We have lived here for over 2 yrs. and we get good maintenance service. They have come over at 3 a.m. and fixed the leaking A/C. We live by the pool and have never seen a problem like what you describe. I've had to tell noisy kids to pipe down a couple times but that's been rare. If you don't like it here one choice you have is to move! I suggest you read up on the landlord tenet laws asap. In alot of states you can withhold a portion or all of the rent until the landlord fixes the problems. In some states you can have the repairs made by outside vendors and withhold the that portion of the rent that paid for the repair. I've had to do this when residing in another state. That got the landlord's attention. When they see that you are in the know about the landlord/tenet laws they sit up and take notice asap! Believe it or not as a tenet sometimes you have more recourse than the landlord. Landlords love to use legalese in the lease to intimidate you but don't be. I'm sorry you have had problems. We have been fortunate. We are also very insistent that problems are fixed by end of business the day of the repair needed or at the very latest the following day. We've received a new dishwasher and microwave asap! They went out on a Sunday by the following Thursday we had brand new right out of the box appliances! The reason for the wait was they had to order them. So hang in there and go online and research the laws or call an attorney for a free consultation. Depending on the state you may have more rights than you think. Good luck!
