After living there for three years, the management and customer service has gone steadily downhill.

You?ll be happy living there if...



a) You don?t mind losing your hot water and heat for 2-3 weeks each year in the middle of a New England winter. (Stock up on space-heaters, and prepare yourself for icy cold showers!)



b) Windows that don?t lock are no bother at all. As they will gladly inform you, "that?s just the way these windows are." No sense in worrying about that little detail in Allston, of all places.



c) Having a mouldering pile of used and discarded mattresses, couches, and rusty appliances fill up the alley right under your window is just fine, even if that pile helps to provide thieves with additional access to your conveniently unlockable windows (they don?t even need a boost up when they can hop on an old stove). There is no security or surveillance, and I have twice caught people using this method to gain access to my apartment, and had to phone the police. (You might also enjoy sleeping with a basball bat handy.)



d) Last, but not least, if you don?t expect to have your service requests addressed that year, you?ll be thrilled to live here. Even if you call them every week--for months at a time--to remind them of the repairs your apartment needs, they will never come out-- and, when confronted with this problem, will openly admit that building maintenance really isn?t a priority.



For the great privelege of living there, you can expect to face a rent increase of $100-200 dollars per month each year you re-sign your lease. Yippee!



Needless to say, I will not be re-signing my lease this year. If this sounds like a great living arrangement to you, you might want to apply now!
