Pluses: Apartments are well-maintained and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. If you call in a repair, you can guarantee that somebody will be there to fix it within 24 hours or less. Ample parking, close to Amherst center. All utilities included. Appliances are in good condition.
Minuses: The complex may look nice, but it does not have the most friendly feel. Neighbors are generally either withdrawn and quiet or loud/partying/argumentative. There are FREQUENT arguments in the hallways and in front of the buildings, and the police are regular visitors to break up disputes. Get a copy of recent police reports for your building before you move in. Apartments are very small and are rather cold in the winter and very hot in the summer (though air conditioners are provided, which helps a lot). Most apartments have two entry doors located on the same wall for no apparent reason, and it makes the living room look rather ugly.
Overall, the complex has a rather dreary feel to it, since most people don't really talk to each other or socialize in any way. It feels even more depressing now that one of the buildings burned down in an electrical fire in April. There are some very strange and/or crazy people living in some of the buildings. Don't expect to make friends with your neighbors!
The landlords are really wonderful and helpful, and we've really liked our apartment, but we haven't been too happy with the environment and neighbors. We'd live at Aspen Chase again if we were really stuck for something else, but we're looking forward to moving out in a few months.
