Pros and Cons of living at the Boulders
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 4/11/2006
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
The pros:
-Affordable if you have enough roommates.
-Accept pets (I have a house cat)
-Huge rooms! (I'm not kidding)
-Bus comes into the compound and goes directly to UMASS
-Friendly office people (They really are helpful, the entire year I was here never had an issue with them. They even let me pay my rent 15 days late)
-dishwasher (huge plus)
Cons:
-Maintanance is HORRIBLE! They do respect privacy and don't just barge in, but they have a tendancy to come in to fix something, don't have the part and say they will come back in 2 days and don't show up for 3 months and when they do, it starts all over again.
-Kinda sketchy. Yeah there are the bad elements in the area, but to be honest every single apt complex I've looked at has them, and a lot are really worse. But you do have to be wary at night.
-It's sort of loud at night as well. If you have to keep your window open like I do because of the humidity, you end up hearing all the stuff which goes down at 3 in the morning, its a pain.
General overview,
It isnt wonderful but it isnt horrible, if you have someone to share the rent with it's convient to live here and go to school in the area. There are bad elements, but unless you understand that Amherst is a college town, and ALL college towns have lots of people below the poverty line, your going to be upset about who are your neighbors, welcome to the real world people.
It does seem to have a bad rep, but a lot of that does come from the neighboring Southpoint and Mill Valley. All in all, if you know what your getting into and don't expect excellance you'll do fine and I'd recommend it for the price range.
