Can any current occupants give me the latest review on this property' Myself & my partner are contemplating taking a 2 bed apartment here in March 08. I would appreciate any feedback. We were shown around the 'model' show house which was lovely. The rental agent did mention that the trash compactor was currently out of order and it was being fixed as we spoke. Also while we were there, a lady came in and said pretty forcefully that she did not want to be contacted directly but through the lawyers!!!! Yikes....

Thanks for the heads up. Is there an elevator in Jefferson? Sewer smells & trash compactor still issues? I don't fancy sharing my dinner with the aroma form the sewer. Noise levels bad? We need a quiet place...

I moved here in December 2007. I am in Bldg # 3 and love it. The movie theater is great, I have had parties in there with my family & friends. The gym is great. My 2 BR Apt on the 2nd floor is fantastic. Beware of one thing~ Do not move into Bldg # 1 OR 2 or you WILL smell the sewage from the treatment plant. Bldgs. 3, 4 and 5, no problem. It is a pet friendly community so you need to like dogs and cats.
My son played outside on the grass and came in with dog ---- on his clothes so be careful where you step.
There are not many kids here. All professional adults. Neighbors I have met have been gracious and friendly. The amenities here are generous and well maintained. Management has been very good to me.
Having a bunch of fabulous restaurants and stores so close by is a real convenience.
I am very glad I moved here. I love the over sized bathtubs, the brand new appliances including washer and dryer.
Very quiet, never any noise.

I do not recommend moving here at all.
We have been here for several months now and find the management talks a good game but are never able to follow through on their promises. The 'security gate' has been broken since December 22nd and they say that there's a problem with finding the part to fix it. Come to find out they are trying to get the money from the person responsible for 'running' into the gate, so it could be sometime before the gate actually gets fixed, in the meantime we are all paying for this 'security feature' that is going un-repaired.
Also, the compactor is broken every other month, snow removable is horrible and threats of fines and towing are issued when you don't move your car at their convenience. I was asked to move on a Friday afternoon at 3pm after a major storm, I did so, and came out the following morning and they hadn't done a thing.
The apartment doors are on 'springs' so if you have inconsiderate neighbors, and most people do, the slamming of the doors can be a constant annoyance as can be a neighbor that has a dog that barks when the owners aren't home.
I have one neighbor that argues at all hours and I can here them, and I can hear the neighbors below screaming at their dog. I have another neighbor that I swear is either deaf or very young because I can hear their TV as I'm coming down the hall.
The main office was broken into, probably by the gangs of kids that congregate around here, and the office computers were all stolen, with all of the renters’ personal info.
The 'pool' is only 3-4 feet deep and last summer we ran into a problem with other renters coming over in bunches of 6-8 and drinking alcohol and 'partying' while others were trying to just lay-out and relax.
The aroma you speak of is a constant issue in the summer time making it unpleasant to even go to your car; sit by the pool or even open bedroom windows. The smell can be so bad that we've gone down the street to Home Depot and Outback Steak House and the wind can blow the smell all the way down there. They've tried several times to 'repair' the septic smell but can not, most people that have lived here move out as soon as their lease is up, I mean the tell tail signs are there, 1-month free, a gift card and move in for 99 dollars? That’s because nobody wants to live here so they have to entice you into making the mistake.
Honestly, for the 1400-1800 a month we could all be renting a home or duplex, not an over crowded development, with poor management, broken gates, broken compactor, noisy neighbors and the sewage smell.
The few upsides this place has are, the ‘lower’ management people are nice, but unable to help with anything. The apartments are fairly new and in good condition (but not worth the money). Security gated community, but gate gets run into often and broken and ‘outsiders’ sit in the parking lot waiting for a resident to open the gate and they ride your ‘coat-tails’ in, which is why the gate is busted all the time. The building doors are locked (but a simple hard pull on the door and its open). Washer and Dryer in the apartment is a great feature and I don’t see any draw back to that. And the dishwasher, stove and fridge are great. But are these features really worth the money for rent plus utilities? Rent a duplex or house, you’ll be happier.

I live in building one, and my apt is on the 3rd floor which I wanted due to not having to hear the noise of others above me. And NOW I am told by their maint. supervisor that that's another problem. That the "gases" from the sewer plant will always rise to many apts, they aren't sure which ones though. ;). I pay over 1800 for rent, for a 2 bed 2 bath, one bath and bed can't be utilized due to the "smell of human waste" filling up the whole area. The smell also comes out of bath 1 as well. So basically to put it bluntly I have to smell poop all over. So I try not to be home. But at that rent, how crazy is that?
If you think driving past a sewage plant is bad, try living inside your actual apartment like that. I actually gag. They tried putting vanilla aroma scents in the air filters which did nothing, they have asked us to run the water A LOT more than NORMAL in hopes that may also alleviate the issue. But bare in mind, they don't pay for our water, we do. Add that extra to your rent.
One late afternoon last week it was so bad, the Bellingham Board of Health came down. He inspected the apt we live in, and said that most of the buldings here have issues. Some apts may not, but it all depends on HOW the wind blows as he termed it, due to their septic issues. He wrote down the issues, and presented them to the Board of Health, and the MGT here. The MGT after 5 mos of us smelling human waste in our apt, decided maybe they would hire a plumber. The plumber advised that the smell was a septic smell that leaked into our apt somehow, however the MGT here wants their rent every 1st of the month. I'm not sure what building the lady you speak of lives in, but rest assured if it's building 1 or even 2, you'll have the same issues. The Board of Health has also told me that the Jefferson's has to comply to get the waste removal funneling off the prop. But their plans they have given to the B of H, have not been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency as of yet.
If you can get building 5, great. If you can't- be advised that after NOV of 2007 when they tried to correct the sewage issue they made it worse. This can also be verified by the B of H. So I'm not sure how summer will be for any apt. I have asked to break lease, and they aren't willing, but I smell poop 24/7. YOU can't bring people over like that. You can't even be in it yourself. Save your money as the person said and rent a condo for the amt they charge.
Good Luck.

i live in building one as well and live down the hall from the woman that probably said that, that you mentioned. i move out next month and can't be happier, because in the yr i have been here i have wanted out right after i moved in due to the fecal smell. her and her husband were also told like the person above by the board of health to file suit in a court for money owed back to them for basically a 1 bed, because they can't use one of their baths or bedrooms either. because the property mgr still wants full rent, and they don't know how to fix the smell that fills their whole apt as well. so if you are in building 1 or 2, not only are you looking at high rent, but the head of the facility is non cooperative, and you'll be looking at lawyer's fees. i know this couple is a very nice couple and unfortunately they smell that septic smell all the time. so when we walk our dogs together the husband tells me that because he can't get anywhere with the place, they are bringing it to court, and that's probably what you are speaking of. or maybe not, as i heard a lot of people are filing suit in buidling one.
g'luck as well.

Nothing has changed in 2008 that is any different than previous posts. My recommendation is to live on the 3rd floor and at bldg 5 if you really want to live here. Check out Union Place in Franklin to compare. They have garages and elevators in some bldgs with on site storage as well. Mgmt might be just as incompetent but you never know.
