Folly Hill Apartments

I have lived here for six months and can't wait to move at the end of the month. To be fair, I have always had a house, and have a dog and two small children, so I would not be happy with any apartment, but this place is misrepresented. Before signing my lease, I asked if section eight housing was prevalent here and was told no, I asked if my dog could be in the yard with the kids if I was there to supervise (unleashed) and was told yes, etc. The dog has to be leashed all the time, and this whole place is section 8. Many section 8 families are fine, but there is a large amount here that give ghetto a whole new meaning. My children get to listen to husbands and wives screaming at each other and often get to wave to the police. Every apartment smells of smoke due to tenants that smoke in their apartments, and the mold growing in my bathroom is unexplainable. If you need something fixed, you have to call a hotline in Texas and answer ten minutes worth of questions before you can tell them the problem (and for some reason the phone line in Texas is really hard to hear) and they usually relay it to the maitenance team wrong. However, most of the staff is very friendly, with the exception of a few. The pictures of apartments on the website are totally bogus. I have yet to see one that looks so nice. I was shocked when I saw the exterior buildings and inside of my apartment. Also, they are very poorly insulated so the cold comes flying in with the noise. There is dog poop everywhere, and new rules seem to made to suit a purpose.
This may be a great place for a single individual or people who work a lot and don't spend much time at home, it is very difficult to get home to as you have to go to Danvers and turn around on 128. It is not very family friendly, and pet friendly is an overstatement, more like pet tolerant. Also, the rent is very high for such a junky place. I would never recommend this place to anyone until some more changes are made. They have just replaced balconies, but most residents would rather see new windows that keep out the cold
On the plus side, the surrondings are rather pretty and we see a lot of wildlife. There are two parks within walking distance, and the new valet trash thing is really great. The biggest downfall is the section 8 housing in the complex and surronding it. It really brings the place down. Also, some major renovations need to be done inside most buildings

I also lived at Folly Hill for just over 6 months. I do agree that they are in desprate need of windows. I just put plastic around my bedroom window and that seems to work. But you can notce the draft cause the plastic is stretched from the draft. What do you think about the laundry room? On my bldng there is 1 tenent who hires someone to come in and do her laundry 2 days a week and she is there all day.The same person will wash 1 or 2 things at a time all day on the other days. The other tenents have to run to the washer and try to get a load in. I have had to pack up weeks of laundry and go to the laundrymat on a few occacions. Oh and I have absolutly no storage.
Here are some things I do not agree with you. Having your dog run around unleashed is in violation of the leash law and protcts the residents and yourself. I never had a problem calling the toll free maintance # and they are there within the hr. The apts on the website are not going to look like yours unless you buy the same furniture and decorate it the same.
My advise to you is when you look for a new apt before you sign the lease you need to read it! I noticed that things you complaind about are clearly written in the lease.
I do agree with you about the only one way in and one was out. Very dangerous, I feel as if Beverly does not want us as resedents.
A dump truck on 128 was going to turn in on the exit but decided to go straight and I was entering 128 and almost got hit by this truck.
PS.. I am not on sec 8!

I read my lease very carefully before signing it. Many terms have changed that are not in my lease. I understand the dog thing, but was told that if I was with him he could run around and exercise...he never runs at anyone. I have no problem following the rules, it is just that I was specifically told different. The website pics are of course going to be better, but everything about them is wrong...there is no dingy paint, banged up walls, dirty carpet, etc. The laundry thing is not a huge issue in my building, I can usually get in and out, but the washers are so small! I try to be quick but I do like ten loads a week. I try to do it in the evening as the rest of my building seems to do theirs during the day. Have you said something to management about your problem? My building is filthy though. the cleaning crew does not come. The maitenence team is always great, but that number is such a hassle for me! it takes forever to get through and they usually don't relay right so they come with the wrong things...not the fault of the workers at all. I am glad to hear that there is another person here that is not on Section 8...I was beginning to feel alone!

it's unfortunate to hear the changes since I was there. I definitely could see a major change coming when I left... I guess it was for the worst.

I too am a past resident. I also had to do the plastic over the window thing-which was replaced while we rented. It really made no diffrence. In the summer it was stiffling. We purposly rented top floor to reduce noize, it was okay but still heard what sounded like small animals in the walls some mornings. The heat in the summer was unbareable. The inadequet A/C cranked for the entire summer and made little diffrence. We slept on the floor in the livingroom and had to close off the other rooms. The electric bill was always over 125.00 a month, and we both worked fulltime! I couldn't wait to get out!
