Good and Bad

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
We lived in Middlesex Crossing for over 2 years starting in 2005. During that time, we had both good experiences & negative experiences in the complex. I'm just going to make a list for easy reading comprehension.
GOOD:
- Moved into a nice, clean apartment, new appliances, new carpet.
- All service requests have been responded to quickly & efficiently.
- Management is very friendly and readily accessible during business hours.
- The location can't be beat, it's right off Route 3.
- Good essentials in the neighborhood - supermarket, pharmacy, pizza, Chinese food, Kmart.
- Good snow removal in the winter, it's usually cleaned up really early.
- Lots of available parking - unlike other complexes, our friends never had trouble finding a spot.
- Cat friendly complex with a single deposit instead of monthly pet rent.
PERSONAL PREFERENCE:
- If you're racist like the below poster, don't bother living here. There are people of almost every ethnicity living here. I think it's a good thing, clearly other people are too hee-haw-vote-for-bush to tolerate differences. can't handle it. Such is apartment life.
- Yes, you can smell your neighbors' cooking, some of which may be of an ethnic flavor. This is the way it is in EVERY APARTMENT COMPLEX EVER CREATED. My advice is to close your door, close your window, and light a scented candle if you can't cope. Usually you can only smell it in the hallway though, so be a grown up and deal with it.
- This complex is family friendly, meaning that there is a playground, kids running around, and kids doing what kids do (making noise, playing, shouting, etc).
BAD:
- The pool always looked sketchy to me. This past summer it was closed upon order of the Health Department. I'm glad I never swam in it.
- Don't bank on using the fitness room, it hardly has any equipment and is often occupied.
- The "clubhouse" is just the Leasing office. It's not like you can use it for anything.
- Floors are pretty thin. Walls too. You will hear your neighbors sometimes, and you will get complaints if you aren't very quiet at night.
- Our building went without hot water for 3 days and our recompense was just $100 back on our rent. It was extremely inconvenient and horrible. This was in December 2006, by the way.
- During road construction, water to all units was shut off and on sporadically and without notice, sometimes for hours at a time. Since we moved out, I don't know if this is still happening.
- Doors are not secure, many locks to the building don't work right and your neighbors will let complete strangers into the building.
- Some neighbors appear to be aggressive and violent. There is a group of younger men (seem like frat boys but without the college educations) who share an apartment and spend much of their time outside yelling, drinking, and working on their cars. They often get into fights and have caused several car accidents in the complex.
- There are a lot of junker cars left to rot in the parking lot. A gutted car with PLANTS growing on the dashboard was left in a spot for almost an entire year. Most recently a graffiti-sprayed commercial truck has been sitting outside of one building for months.
- If your downstairs neighbors smoke, you will be able to smell it in your apartment if you open your window or balcony door.
- The top floor apartments are sweltering in the winter due to the heat from the downstairs apartments.
- The wall air conditioner units do not work very well.
- The shared washers & dryers in each building are often broken due to abuse and neglect from neighbors. Some neighbors choose to dye and/or bleach their clothes in the washers, leaving drips of dye & bleach waiting to wreck your stuff. My advice is to go to the Lost Sock Laundromat on 3A, it's close by and it's kept clean & functional.
- I am 90% sure that the mailman who comes to Middlesex Crossing takes about 2 days off each week.
- There are no good restaurants in Billerica unless you only like Pizza & Chinese Takeout.
- Most of the construction is cheaply done. Our bathroom cabinet was disintegrating when we moved in, and the tiles in the bathroom & kitchen are stick-ons, that will warp in moisture. Floors are very creaky.
