i live in a two bedroom split, meaning that there are two bedrooms but no real living room. our apartment has two nice sized bedrooms with a tiny kitchen, bathroom, and a hallway/living nook thats about 8x6. the buildings are ancient, so the heating is somewhat noisy and controled by management, the walls are thin with dozens of layers of paint (which is cool cause they dont really care if you paint any crazy colors--they repaint everytime a new tenant moves in), the electric is old, there is crown molding, and wood floors. the water pressure is great (although sometimes it will flicker from cold to hot).
although i have seen a lot of people here complain about the management, i have had only great experiences with them and matanance. they installed new kitchen and bath cabnets before we moved in, and when i called with trouble with hot water in my kitchen and the fridge wasnt cooling enough, within a day and a half they had the water fixed and delivered a brand new fridge, no questions asked. although the building is old and a lot goes wrong, they seem to try to fix the problems as soon as they can.
One thing I hate about the apartment is that the laundry rooms are in a dark basement that smells like cat pee and half the time none of them work. i would be prepared to get your laundry done somewhere else. Besides that, I would recamend this place, the location is great and central and the prices are pretty reasonable. and since it is so close to fenway park there are always police and great security, so its really pretty safe. and be prepared to hear the stands and cheers during baseball season (really is quite enjoyable if you're a sports fan)

Those with longer tenancy will likely tire of the constant need for repairs and the rodent/insect infestations. Similarly, the poor attitude of the management company will become apparent the more problems that need to be addressed. On another note, an apartment with two bedrooms and no real living room is properly called a 1-bedroom split.
