24 Haviland St. rules!

I have lived at 24 Haviland St. for 14 years and I can attest that it is one of the best values in Boston.

It is a 4-story building that was originally a residential hotel constructed in 1912. There are about 105 residents who are mostly, but not entirely Berklee students.

The 1-bedrooms are 12' X 18' and feature an alcove that is suitable for a dining room table. The kitchens are the small, "galley" type and it might be wise to invest in an exhaust fan for the window.

During my residence the intercom buzzers have been replaced, the stairs have had their treads replaced, 2 new washers and driers have been installed and the fire alarm system has been overhauled.

The location is EXCELLENT!

However...there is street noise as cabs use Haviland St. to speed down to Fenway Park and Lansdowne street. Berklee students also tend to hang out in front of the building giving you the decidedly mixed blessing of impromptu street "concerts".

If you value peace and quiet live on the back of the building.

Additionally, metal bands and DJ's have been known to rehearse at their convenience regardless of the time of day.

In all fairness the building manager and Lundgren Mgmt. are very responsive to noise complaints and have been known to evict those who repeatedly disturb their neighbors.

The front door has a video camera. However some of the residents have the habit of letting people wating in the lobby into the building.

On the positive side Bryan, the building manager is vigilant and ther area is much safer than it once was.

Extermination is done on a regular basis and smoke detectors are maintained.

The lobby and stairs are cleaned on a regular basis. Unfortunately some of the cleanliness challenged Berklee students make this task necessary.

Best of all this building has a live-in manager who attends to repairs ASAP.

Lundgren Mgmt. is available and responsible.

I love this place!
