Shoddy Management

1. The unit was not ready on time (not cleaned), forcing us to change plans, temporarily move all of our belongings into the office, and commute from the car rental return location with strollers and two children.
2. When leaving to go out for supper the first night of our stay, our 2 year old child closed the hallway door which was missing a handle, so we were locked in the unit. I felt it would be too dangerous to take a three month old baby down fire escape stairs, so I had to remove the door hinges with a butter knife, and our dinner plans were ruined.
3. On the Sunday of our stay at around 10AM, the fire alarm went off at the volume level of a rock concert. Our plans were to stay in the unit and get dressed for a wedding. The alarm was still going at 3PM when we left.
4. The place wasn't clean in the first place, and they charged us with a $10 cleaning fee after we left.
5. I complained and did not receive any response from the management after two months.
6. Dryers had no heat.
I would not recommend any of their properties due to management.

Response from the management
1. The apartment was not yet ready because this person arrived before the 3:00 move-in time stated in the lease paperwork. We offered to hold the luggage until the move-in time.
2. When the child had somehow removed the door handle, a maintenance person was promptly there within 10 minutes of receiving the after-hours pager message. The stairs are normal stairs, not a fire escape.
3. When the fire alarm goes off, the fire department comes to the building to inspect and the alarm company is alerted automatically to come to the building. I have a hard time believing it had sounded for 5 hours.
4. The cleaning company charges more than the alloted clean-out expense only when the apartment is especially bad and takes extra hours to clean. It is stated in the lease that the apartment is to be left in the same condition it was found.
5. This customer's complaint was addressed immediately.
6. The laundry machines (free to use) are serviced regularly and we have had no issues lately. Perhaps this person did not clean the lint filter?
