Bay Realty: The unfortunate side of potentially great apartments

Though the rent to quality-of-living ratio is nowhere near nightmarish under the decrepit wing of Bay Realty, it is advisable to stay away from this unprofessional realty group that seems almost as if it is run by the preoccupied college students it so often rents to.

At the helm of Bay Realty squats Barry Samuels, an apathetic landlord whose exclusivity towards the needs of his properties portrays him to be uncaring, uninterested, and lazy. In fact, if it weren't for an article on WickedLocal.com (a news site centered around Needham, Massachusetts) that displayed a photo of Mr. Samuels, I would have continued assuming this Wizard of Oz simply did not exist. Often realtors would refute this point by stating "...but that's what you want! A landlord who stays out of your way!" However, when the building is in need of repair due to rain damage, cracked walls, and light fixtures that do not work--to name a few of the issues, omitting the roach problems that plague even the top floors of some of Bay Realty's buildings--you do not want a landlord who hides from the problems with his buildings.

True, Bay Realty's buildings are equipped with a maintenance crew that seems to always dwell in the dark corners of the basement of his buildings, but with the recent decriminalization of marijuana in Massachusetts, it seems as if this "crew" would prefer to spark a spliff instead of fix a leaky roof.

Here's some advice to potential renters: when touring apartments for rent, ask your realtor who the landlord is, if the response you receive is Barry Samuels or Bay State Realty, then stay away from the building. No matter if it seems like the price is right. It's unfortunate, yes, but it will be more trouble that it's worth. Even the "misplaced rent checks" that occur on a month-to-month basis for one renter is enough of a red flag to any sensible Boston renter.

Having said all this, it is important to note that these properties have a lot of potential. Under any other realty group, these apartments could be great. But they're not.
