DON'T!

We rented a basement apartment from them in the Back Bay, thinking we were getting a good deal. But we ended up with a nightmare! Banging pipes, mice living in our stove, mold in the bathroom. PLUS sewage problems required workmen to invade our apartment almost every other week without any forewarning! We'd come home to find them tearing apart our closet! Also, we couldn't trust that our packages wouldn't be stolen from the apartment lobby, the washer and dryers were old and made our clothes smell bad--not to mention there weren't nearly enough of them for the whole community. The elevator was iffy at best. And we were lucky enough to have the apartment outside which garbage collected and the homeless people and the rats swarmed around. NONE of this was brought to our attention when we rented. And the fees were outrageous!

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 05/15/2006
The "problems" these renters report are the result of living in an urban environment. The vermin situation is under constant contract with each building and management cannot be held responsible for their entry when a neighboring building doesn't not have extermination program in place. Mold is common in basement units when the occupants do not properly vent their unit. Management is obligated by contract to provide access to a unit in an emergency situation. The residents should have chosen a building with a concierge if they did not want their packages left in the open or made the necessary arrangement with the shipping company for delivery times. Again, living in a city enviroment may lead to various persons in the public alleyways. If spotted the residents should have notfied the appropriate authorites who have jurisdiction over such matters. Living in historical boston does mean that many of the building's structures must be kept to code with their original construction per: the historical society. Space designates the type and size of elevators and washers and dryers. If in condominium, these are up to the board of trustees. Should there a have been a problem with either, the tenants should have notified management who would have immediatley dispatched the appropriate vendor to repair. Additionally, Boston is a very desirable place to live and being a densely populated area the cost of living reflects the same.
