Forget about sleeping

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 8/20/2009
Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

We lived there for 1 year and this building is not suited for the 21st century:
1) The windows are very thin and do not block the sound nor the cold. Apt that faces Mass Ave need a special window and not an oldie "double glass", there are much better solutions today. IT IS VERY NOISY, FORGET ABOUT SLEEPING/STUDYING. During the winter the noise was somewhat bearable but around April the constraction on Mass Ave started and until we left it was a disaster, for example, National Grid thought it is a good idea to use pneumatic hammer on SATURDAY 5AM. Ok, you get the point, noisy, very.
2) The windows that do not block the noise do the same job by not keeping the cold out, during the winter we pushed our bed to the very other side of the room, away from the window, the area around the window was COLD, so was the wall below the window.
The heating system is old, the building turn it on only when it drops below 58F, and switch to cooling in June 1st, so no heat for you also if it is cold in June (as was this year). The airflow from the unit is very weak and it becomes useless in extreme temps.
3) The water system is old as well, forget about having a shower with a constant temperature of water, suddenly it will go to extreme cold, minute later to extreme hot, it is a torture machine, you will want to end the shower as quickly as possible.
4) The walls are very thin, any time a neighbour shut his door the whole apt is shaking like there was an earthquake. Noise from the neighbours depends of course if you are lucky or not, most of the year it was ok, during the last 2 months it was bad (family with noisy kids who play ball in the house, all day we heard BOOM BOOM).

Is everything bad' absolutely NOT!
1) Great location, in the city, everything you need is down stairs, fenway 2 min walk, very vibrant atmosphere.
2) The maintenance stuff was very good, we had 3 issues that were solved quickly and exceeded our expectations.
3) Doormans are extremely nice and helpful.
4) Management is very reasnoable to deal with, they have strict rules but DO show flwxibility where needed. So is the lease office stuff.
5) The roof is a real gem, sitting there during the summer looking over the city/Fenway Park is something we will miss.
6) We had no rodent problems.
7) They add amenities all the time, like the free coffee machine, air compressor at the garage, more furniture on the roof, etc.

So... overall we enjoyed our time at Church Park (location) but also wished we could leave after 9 months, that is why we can't recommend it, at least until they replace the windows/heat/water systems and make the apts as it should be in the 21st century.
If you are looking for 2-4 months living during the summer, it is a nice place (in case you don't have to study/work at the apt)...
