I've been staying here with my wife for a year. I've been paying $1300 for a very small 1 BR apartment overlooking a backstreet. The location of these apartments in the mid of the Fens is magnificent.. BUT...
MICE are everywhere. I've had mice coming in and out the apartment since the day we moved in. We are keeping our apartment exceptionally clean but they keep coming back. As most of the units are exactly similar, the mice already know where to look for food (and that's for them the top of the stove). Imagine that you have to cook where mice walk and ...
The maintenance department just do superficial work handling the problem. They usually come with some liquid sealant and seal the "apparent" holes. They don't bother to remove the stove to look for hidden holes. They don't bother to seal the cabinets tightly or glue extra pieces of wood to them to ensure they are hole free.
They always say that's the only thing they can do. The exterminators they deal with come with a bucket full of sticky pads and baits which they throw around the stove and behind the fridge. AND.. imgaine.. the mice are much smarter than the exterminators think. They never stick in those pads and never eat from the bait (It seems that they have already learned the lesson). Moreover, the exterminators never bother to check the old pads or baits, they keep on putting more and more every month till the pads are over each other.

So, if you don't have a problem dealing with mice and having them around you or your kids or pets, that's not of a bad place to consider. But, if you are like me and my wife who regards mice as creatures with a disease-carrying abilility who exists only in dirty old places, then, don't even bother. Especially that the rates are much higher than the services you receive (no laundry in building, filthy basements, extra crowded parking, no utils included, old buildings with cosmetic refurbishments, No security services provided, etc...)

My advice is don't be fooled with the cosmetic landscaping around the buildings or the bunch of cheap paintings around the corridors or the nice carpeting over age old stairs.

We really have had it with rodents and Hopefully we'll be moving to a place that we can call home.

200%% agree with you! I am having exactly same problem. In addition to Mice, I have roaches!! Those aren't the normal size that you would find in residential place, instead they are about 3 inch long, and 2 inch wide. I am not kidding!
