It's just an apartment afterall...

I moved in Oct. 1st and have mixed feelings. The neighborhood is somewhat noisy, with sirens being the biggest problem, nary an hour goes by without one, but hey, this is the city. There is some general noise from the street and Fanieul Hall, but it totaly depends on what floor and which side of the building you're on, so choose wisely.

It's true there are no supermarkets nearby but that will change withing a few months as a Whole Foods market goes in on Cambridge st about 4 or 5 blocks away. However the Haymarket is great! I shop for the whole week on saturday and it's sooo cheap. There are other smaller markets around including zillions of CVS stores that can supply things you need more than once per week, and specialty stores in the North End.

The view is stupendous of the ocean (for me) in the morning and makes it all worth it.

I like the health club - it's clean, modern and quite available, just wish they had longer hours (9pm on weekdays and 6pm weekends). It includes free WiFi in the club area and all for $60/mo. You just can't beat the convenience.

Service is very good - had some minor problems at first and all were fixed to my satisfaction right away. Kitchens and bathrooms are very good quality, but the rest of the construction is average. They totally cheesed it on the bifold closet doors - yuk. The walls, typical of so many newer apartments, are paper thin and you can hear TVs and even loud conversations from the next apartment. Thankfully there don't appear to be many Eurotrash students here to party through the night.

I think the locale is very convenient for nightlife - you're just a $5 cab ride from anywhere in the Backbay, or just walk 15 minutes or so. Beacon Hill and the North End aren't far either.

I drive to work so I put my car in the Pi Alley garage directly across the street and it's only $125/mo if you're out by 9:30 and back after 4:30, otherwise it's $350/mo full time access. Also all major highways are very easily accessible.

I signed a one year lease for $2100 for a one bedroom with balcony (don't look down!) that is about 750 sq. ft.

All in all a pretty good place. Their major competitor is Church Place on Mass Ave in the Back Bay, which has its plusses and minusses too, for about the same price.

I looked at 'em all and the Devonshire was the best compromise.
