This is getting ridiculous. For the last six months the 10 story parking garage next door has been being renovated. They begin jackhammering precisely at 7:00 a.m. every weekday and the noise reverberates through the windows and walls so loudly that you feel like you are part of the construction team.
Nobody on the Washington Street side of the building could possibly sleep through this noise. You just have to wake up at 7:00 a.m. and get out of the building. Management said six months ago that it would take a couple of months yet no end appears in sight. They have now reached the upper floors of the parking garage and the noise is literally unbearable. Ive lived in the city for years and never seen anything like this.
If you are considering Devonshire, be sure to come visit us around 7am one morning to see what youre in for.

In any urban environment one can not control the external activities of another property. I have spoken with Devonshire management and they are continuing to try to get the workers to begin at 8AM. I lived through the Big Dig in the North End so this is a piece of cake. I had this type of noise all night. This is the city!

I live on the Washington Street side and I have barely noticed the construction work across the street. Then again, why is this guy not getting up and going to work? I guess if he is just independantly wealthy he could use that morning time to head up to the sky club and work out and maybe he wouldn't be so wussy.

I have lived in the Devonshire building for two years now and agree with the original poster that the jackhammering is excessive. While I understand that living in the city means urban noise (fire trucks, people leaving bars, car honking), the construction noise is beyond anything reasonable in terms of loudness and duration. I would have to raise my voice to say something to my roommate who would be 20 feet away. And for this to go on for half a year is rediculous (especially since the year before that consisted of contruction noise from within the building due to apartment renovations). I sympathize with the poster who lived in the North End and had to endure the Big Dig.
The Devonshire is a great building with great amenities. Just make sure you go to sleep before midnight and wake up before 7am.
