A lot of people have complained about St. Germain, but I think a lot of their problems are just things that happen that aren´t anyone´s fault. The buildings are old - they were renovated I think in the 70´s, but management has done a lot of updating recently, and rents have stayed where they are. I lived there from 1995-2002, and at first my rent used to go up every year, but the last year I lived there there was no increase. The property is nice, but there are a lot of weirdos on the street who are really negative. I always hear people complaining in the laundry room, but I don´t think they know what they´re talking about. They seem to be just looking for something to complain about. For me, maintenance has always been responsive, the apartment was in perfect shape when I moved in, and I always got a call back & a maintenance guy to come down quickly whenever I had a problem.
Sure, there are problems there - but I don´t think that management has anything to do with them. The things that make the street prettier than everywhere else in the neighborhood are the things that attract the rats. You´ll never get rid of them completely, but management has exterminators out every week to make sure the rats arent´ everywhere. Also, the renovations have been loud - but the end results justify the inconvenience of daytime noise.
Parking problems are something that you accept when you decide to move to a property without a garage. yes, it sucks. But that´s Boston for you, especially Back Bay. The apartments are pretty, the fireplaces work, the maintenance staff is nice, and management is responsive. I don´t think you can expect a lot more unless you´re paying Ritz rental prices.
Overall, I loved it at St. Germain - that's why I stayed for 7 years while I was saving to buy a house. I loved the feeling of the apartments, it really felt good to come home. And the deck off the back of the apartment made it feel like I had some outdoor space too. I couldn't barbecue or anything, but I could have friends over & have a beer on the porch in the summertime. The trees on the street block out all the noise, so you may as well be living in the suburbs for how quiet it is most of the time. I moved in right when I moved from Boston, and saw some of my friends' apartments - I liked them, but wouldn't have traded my apartment for theirs anytime. uWDgQKY3Vkv8FKIsB8Ax

August 25, 2005 I'm a visitor to Boston and stumbled upon St. Germain by accident as I was walking home at night from the Hynes Convention Center T station. The house and street lighting on both sides of the street together with the tree canopy made the street abolutely enchanting. I think that it looks better at night than during the daytime! When were the houses originally built? They seem alsmost in mint condition. You said that they were renovated in the 1970's but when were they originally built? Today they look almost brand new.
