St. Germain Property full of Rats!!!

Years at this apartment: 1995 - 1996
As the sign reminded us every time we entered our apartment, we were living in a "luxury" building. I hope the rats appreciated that! I would come home to find rats sitting on our front stoop. The woman in the basement apartment told us that she thought someone was tapping on her window, only to look up and to see a street fight between two gangs of rats happening outside her window! I complained over and over to the management, and they always acted very surprised -- like they never heard it before -- and would "take care of it" right away. Never happpened.
Our back door to the small "balcony" did not close porperly. It had a 1/2 " to 1 inch gap at the bottom and on the side. The door obviously needed to be replaced. We got wind, rain, snow and even leaves coming into our bedroom through the openings. The maintenance person said the management would not pay to replace the door. He ended up nailing wood around the frame to close the gaps to fix it, making the balcony inaccessible.
We stupidly believed the manager when he told us heat was about $60 per month in the winter. Ha! The bills came closer to $300, and we kept it pretty low. THere is no insulation in the outer walls -- it is the highly fashionable "exposed brick". The liquids in our kitchen cabinets froze in the winter.
We thought the cozy fireplace would help. COuldn't use that either. The smoke poured into the apartment (yes, the flue was open!) Seems it is a coal fireplace, not wood, so it is built more shallow and thus, not usable (no coal mines nearby).
And Noise -- we could hear absolutely everything from the hall and stairs, and much of what was said in the apartments above us.
When we did not renew, they gave realtors free access to keys to our apartment and they showed up without notice at any time -- all hours, all days. I had them walk intothe bathroom while I was in the shower! I almost called 9-1-1 because I thought I was being robbed!
Not at all luxurious -- although the street is gorgeous. And btw, the poor guy who shoveled the sidewalks, he had to do it by hand because the manager was too cheap to buy a snow blower. It snowed so much that winter I was sure he was going to have a heart attack.
Skip this one unless rodents as roomates appeals to you!
