As a former resident of Lincoln Heights, I wanted to write a review/comparison of the two properties for people looking in this area. If you have a pet, then most likely these two places are the only area communities that are pet-friendly.
Liberty Park and Lincoln Heights are owned by the same company, but there are good/bad points about each.
Lincoln Heights:
RESIDENCES - they are very nice, and for the money you get more square footage than Liberty Park. But the community has been open for 13 years now, and it's starting to show. The kitchen countertops are uneven and need to be replaced, but it doesn't seem to be a possibility here. The units aren't insulated very well, and during the winter it gets COLD. You can feel the cold air through the electric outlets in the wall adjacent to the outdoors. In the wintertime, my pipes froze 3 times, even though I had my thermostat turned up to 70 and wasn't on vacation.
SERVICE - EXCELLENT. The staff here respond to every request, and when I reported a shrub in front of my patio that was missing, they promptly replanted a NEW ONE. How's that for service' The staff maintains the landscaping to a pristine perfection. The maintenance guys here are friendly and great - they would help me shovel out my car during snowstorms, and kept the walkways shoveled constantly and promptly. When I first moved in, I had a list of issues I found with the unit, including a toilet bowl lid that had a cracked circle on the bottom where it rests on the bowl, and they replaced the entire cover. They also replaced my blinds, which were dirty.
SHIPPING/DELIVERY: (you will see why this is important when you get to the Liberty Park section of this review) - EXCELLENT.
The mailman was very courteous and nice, and when I would miss my packages, he would make sure to come into the building and knock on my door just to see if I was home. The UPS delivery guys were awesome - they would leave notices when packages were missed, with approximate times for the next day when they would redeliver. Mail was delivered promptly, every day, around 3:30pm. Packages were never just left at the front of the building. Missed packages that were dropped off were left at the front office, where you could pick them up when you had time.
LIBERTY PARK
RESIDENCES: Even better than those at Lincoln Heights - with attention to detail, like great molding and pristine conditions of most of the units. The units are a bit smaller for the price, but they are brand new and therefore seem a little cleaner than the ones at Lincoln Heights. The walls here are thin - thinner than at Lincoln Heights. You can hear other peoples' tv's going and even people yawning in the morning. The kitchens are great - brand new countertops and cabinets, and Whirlpool appliances. There is only one dumpster for the whole community - which you may have to drive to.
SERVICE: The staff here are really friendly, but pay less attention to detail than the staff at Liberty Park. When asked questions, sometimes the answers are not correct or seem just made up to answer the question at the time, and you get the feeling that they don't really care about your concerns. Maybe it's the newness of the units, but if a problem is reported, the basic reply is 'Can you just deal with it'' Maybe it's just me, but paying the premium for a luxury unit entitles the right to attention to detail. The first snowstorm just hit, and it took awhile to have the paths plowed, and the ramp in the front of my building was very poorly salted, even though it has no traction and has a rather steep incline. It also seemed hard to get numbers for prorated rent from the staff - whereas at Lincoln Heights it was calculated and given at the time of lease. The hours for the front office are later though, which is very convenient for those who have to work.
DELIVERY/SHIPPING: Very poor. I don't undersatnd the difference in approach between the shippers for Liberty Park and those at Lincoln Heights. UPS and Fedex don't even ring intercoms to check if you are home, and sometimes they will just leave the packages in front of your door or at the front of the building. When you miss a package, and it is left at the front office, no notice is left at all that you missed a package, so you would never know unless you had tracking. Also, you never sign for packages here. I think that shippers either sign it themselves, or get the front office to sign for all packages. The mail service seems slow here - pieces of mail that should have been delivered took more than a week to get here, and I have very few forwarded pieces of mail from my previous residence, which is unusual. Also, the mailboxes are further away for more units at a time.
Overall, I would say that it's a tossup between the two places. Liberty Park is newer, nicer, and the units are fantastic. The landscaping at Lincoln Heights is unparalleled, and the general environment is very pleasant. But there are more units, and therefore, more traffic and people around at all times. Liberty Park seems more private. Lincoln Heights also happens to be within walking distance of the train station, whereas at Liberty Park they provide a shuttle service to the train. The service at Lincoln Heights is a little more attentive to details, but it doesn't mean that the staff at Liberty Park doesn't - it just makes a little more of a difference when your concerns are taken care of quickly and with attention to detail. Both places are great - I love my unit at Liberty Park, with the exception of the thin walls and poor shipping.
