Racism is still prevalent

Liberty Park is the most racist apartment complex that any minority could choose to live. The people who work in the leasing office have shown discrimination SEVERAL times since the moment I began the application process. After witnessing some of this racism, I even did an experiment to prove (or disprove) discrimination. I had four friends of mine call the rental office about availability -- two black, two white. Interestingly enough, my two white friends who called were welcomed with open arms and all but given keys to the apartment! Meanwhile my two black friends who called were told nothing was available. And this was all before any of them even filled out an application! Hmmm.
There are plenty of other instances of their blatant racism, but I would need plenty of time and space to run them all down. Outside of the less than cordial treatment from those in the leasing office, there are other aspects of living here that have made this a negative experience. They will enter your apartment without notice because the superintendent thinks he runs the place. I would never recommend this apartment complex to anyone! When I viewed the apartment before my application was accepted, I took note of all of the appliances. They were new. I thought that was great. However, when I moved in, they had replaced the new appliances with used ones! Even the dishwasher had been replaced. The used one that they put in was dirty, had broken glass in it, and didn't even fit properly into the space that the original dishwasher sat in.
The apartments are built cheaply. You can hear your neighbors' every move. There is dog poop everywhere because there are so few pet-wastebaskets for pet owners to put their dog's waste. They also have problems with ticks. Every time I took my dog out she came in with a tick stuck to her ear. That goes along with the bug problem I guess. If you're in your living room and a huge bug that looks like a beetle runs up your back, it's probably one of the hundreds of carpenter ants that reside at Liberty Park Apts. If you are not familiar with carpenter ants, look them up before renting an apt. here. They are HUGE. They tear apart home foundations (they chew on them like termites). Since this is a relatively new complex, they probably haven't done TOO much damage yet, but it's only a matter of time. Also, the lighting is poor. The parking area is very dark. Because the complex is newly built, there aren't too many maintenance issues yet, so the maintenance crew is NOT BUSY. Yet, for some reason, if you call them to fix any problems you have in your apartment, it takes them all day to come to your apartment.

I am really sorry you feel there is discrimination in this complex. I feel the opposite. I feel the place is very eclectic & from what I have seen, everyone is treated the same. We looked at Lenox Farms- it didn;t matter what color you are, green is the only thing they see. Bugs are going to be around, as we were built on wetlands. I had the same issue in Randolph. The poop everywhere, can't be blamed on the complex, but the people who are to ignorant to pick up after their pets! No matter how many poop bag areas they have, some people just don't care. This is not their house, it is only an apartment that they rent, so why care. That is what is wrong with people. I agree that there not enough lighting in the parking lot. Unfortunatly the noise is everywhere. We were told when we first moved in that we wouldn't hear noise. Wrong! But it is not just here, it is everywhere, any apt complex old or new. We have been in both. In private homes, nothing is soundproof either. As far as the staff goes, they are really nice. Our only problem was with the old old staff when we first moved in. We were given a hard time on some issues. But we won. We enjoy this property. I am really sorry that you are not happy here. Try to work it out & stay. The old saying "the devil you know is better then the devil you don't is true". I hope things get better for you.
Have a Blessed Day!

First and foremost let me start by saying that you can not please everyone. It is very easy to say that ------ and whites are treated differently. I personally know the superintendent and he has been nothing but cordial and very professional. It doesnt matter if he is just working on turning a unit that was left in deplorable condition or if he is in your unit in the middle of the night cleaning up from a water intrusion, he is always pleasant. I must agree with the other respondant when they say that the community can't be held accountable for pet owners that are TOO LAZY to pick up after their pets. I have also seen the Maintenance crew out on the property with buckets picking up of that pet waste. How dare you try to hide behind this survey and make Liberty Park out to be a bad place to live. I am also sure that YOU were unhappy because you didn't get special treatment. Who is really the prejudice one here. I am a satisified customer and have been for five years. I realize that when you live in the WOODS there are going to be insects, what is the Liberty Park staff to do assign a bug killing patrol to keep them from going into your unit. Maybe you would prefer a home in the city with all of the other rodents. I LOVE LIBERTY PARK, and I would tell all of my friends to move here cause they aren't going to get better customer service from anyone else.

With the other rodents? What is THAT supposed to mean? I wouldn't be surprised if YOU were the superintendent. Let me clear some things up. I agree that pet owners should clean up after their own pets. HOWEVER, there should also be more pet wastebaskets. Secondly, I did not blame the complex workers for the carpenter ants. I stated a FACT. There are plenty of carpenter ants. They are HERE. How and WHY would you get defensive about that? Super? And this survey that you say I'm "hiding" behind is a forum for expressing our experiences where we've lived (I notice you've posted anonymously as well). If your experience is different than mine, god bless you, but HOW DARE YOU attack my post, and insult me in the process? "Maybe you would prefer a home in the city with all of the other rodents." ??? Wow.

As a person of color living at Liberty Park, I am sorry to hear about your experience. I agree that racism still exists - and have been a victim myself - but I have NOT experienced it at Liberty Park. I have been treated with respect and proper etiquette everytime - even over the phone - and the leasing staff has been helpful throughout.
Just my personal experience ...

I am posting anonymously for the sole reason that I am visiting and not using my own equipment. Just want to get that out of the way. I visit often and have seen firsthand the discrepancies/deficiencies described in the original post. I'm delighted that at least one person of color is treated with respect at Liberty Park, but there are exceptions to every rule...I have lived throughout the U.S. and in a few other countries as well, and experienced blatant and covert racism -- it exists and no one has a premium on it; however, one would certainly hope that in one's own home, there would be escape, peace, and solace. I also beg to differ with the thought that because one is renting, the premises are not considered home -- home is not dependent upon paying a mortgage rather than a rent. I wish you peace and light.

WOW . . . I know racism exists, but as someone who is looking for a new place to live, if that's the first review you read then its a real turn off.

Racism exsists everywhere. Iam white and experience it all the time from other races in different venues. Racism is sad, stupid, blind, hurtful, damaging, and creates more anger, creating more racism. I was about ready to transfer to New England, and looked at Liberty Place as one choice, but not so sure now. It doesn't sound harmonious.
