It has come to my attention from a reliable source that Carlson Real Estate does not rent to law students. They do not particularly try to hide this fact. If they find out you are a law student, they will tell you to your face "we don't rent to law students. We were burned once in a lawsuit by a law student. You're not a protected class (unlike religion, race, sex, etc.), so we don't have to rent to you.

Most of you aren't law students, so why should you care'

Simple. If a landlord complies with the law, maintains a safe environment, and returns rental deposits on time, he/she has nothing to worry about.

As I heard someone say on a Boston Real Estate Blog:

Proceed with caution.
