This was a letter we sent to the realtor who showed us the apartment - the (long)list of negative issues/points about this building are below:

Dear X-

If you recall, we brought concerns to you regarding some comments we saw on a Web site (http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/MA-Brookline-Sovereig about people's negative experiences at the building. You assured us that these must have come from people who were "problem tenants." I can say with 100% confidence that my fiance and I do not fall into that bucket - in fact, we haven't brought most of our issues / concerns to the management for fear that we would be treated the same way some of the people on this site were treated.

Here is a list of the things that have happened since we moved into this so-called "luxury building":

Three days into our lease, our apartment was still a mess - we couldn't move in. The previous tenant left a huge pile of garbage / boxes / discarded household items in the middle of the living room. Also, the closets still had junk/garbage in them, and the kitchen was disgusting. Luckily, we made sure to have a few days of overlap between our old lease (at Dexter Park, a really fabulous place to live) and this place. We had to put about 6 calls into maintenance/management before it was cleaned and prepared for us to move in. Disgusting.

On one occasion a fuse blew in our apartment, leaving us with no electricity in half of the apartment (the bedroom, the living room). We called to get help, and three days later they finally fixed it (apparently, some of the wiring in the building has not been "updated" and they couldn't find the special fuses/equipment they needed to fix it).

Last month, for two days we were unable to shower, brush our teeth, or basically use the water, as the only thing coming out of the faucets was scalding hot water. This was during the week when we needed to go to work - what an immense inconvenience!

The garage door has been broken for months. It will go days without closing - open for the whole world to walk right into the garage, and thus the building (you don't need a key to get into the building from the garage) - HOW UTTERLY UNSAFE!!! To make matters worse, last week our bikes were stolen from the garage - both had been chained and locked. WE PAY $200 A MONTH TO PARK IN THIS GARAGE - I would certainly expect it to be kept up with and be kept safe. If people feel comfortable coming right into the garage and taking bikes, what is to stop them from waltzing right into the building, taking the elevator up to any of the floors and doing something even worse''

The "concierge" service is a total joke. Half the time there isn't anyone sitting at the desk - they have "called in sick" - "gone out for errands" that seem to take ages - "closed for the holiday" - and just been completely unhelpful. This is really not cool when you have a package that you can't get b/c the concierge is never around.

So much for the "trainer" that we were told existed as part of the gym service. I've yet to see him again (weird that he happened to be there during our tour of the building before we signed the lease, but never again). I've never been contacted to see if we wanted to take advantage of the services either. People shouldn't be told about a service that doesn't exist - it is misleading. Also - there is equipment there (the bike for one) that has never worked in the 10 months I've lived there.

The laundry room is truly horrible. There are only 5 washers (and 1 or 2 are always out of service), and 6 dryers (again, 1 or 2 don't even work) for this entire, quite large, building!!! Ugh.

We have a crazy upstairs neighbor who screams and swears at all hours of the night. To make matters worse, the person next door to us pounds on OUR wall, assuming the noise is coming from our apartment. We have had a few sleepless nights b/c of this.

Needless to say, we are not renewing our lease. We can barely wait to move out. We are posting this letter on the same Web site we originally saw complaints, and will be looking to contact the proper authorities about this place (at the very least we need to contact the police about the bike theft).

Please think twice before steering another client in the direction of this place.
