This was our first apartment in Mass after moving from Florida. We were used to living in a complex, so that's what we looked for when moving here. However, after a year, we're moving closer to the city in a 2 or 3 family house.
We've liked living here, and have a great apartment for the price, I guess. We pay $1480 for a pretty large 2 bedroom/2 bath. HOWEVER, our lease is up in 2 months and we received a notice saying that our rent would be raised to $1650 next year. This is an 11.5% increase, even while friends who live CLOSER to the city on a subway line were able to negotiate their rents DOWN this year.
We like the setting--we're on the 3rd floor and our balcony looks out onto the woods. But, the set up of the kitchen is horrible--there are very few cabinets--if you like to cook and have lots of cooking items, don't come here! There is very little storage space and no walk-in closets.
Also, we have section 8 in our building and they are VERY messy and leave their crap all over the place. Plus, someone below us smokes on their porch, and the smell makes its way up through our windows when they're open. We just don't want to pay that much rent for living this far from the city.
